Khan Signs Nude Pics of Self at Airport

SRK.jpg

What next? No, really. I want to know. What next? First SRK announces he’s releasing a movie called My Name is Khan that has to do with issues of terrorism post-9/11. Then SRK gets detained by guards at Newark airport. Now, days after SRK wraps up a publicity tour in NYC, we hear that our friend is once again in the news? Life imitating art? Stranger things have happened.

Claims on behalf of authorities that naked body scanner images are immediately destroyed after passengers pass through new x-ray backscatter devices have been proven fraudulent after it was revealed that naked images of Indian film star Shahrukh Khan were printed out and circulated by airport staff at Heathrow in London. > “I was in London recently going through the airport and these new machines have come up, the body scans. You’ve got to see them. It makes you embarrassed – if you’re not well endowed,” said Khan, referring to how the scans produce clear images of a person’s genitals. “You walk into the machine and everything – the whole outline of your body – comes out,” he said.

“I was a little scared. Something happens [inside the scans], and I came out. Then I saw these girls – they had these printouts. I looked at them. I thought they were some forms you had to fill. I said ‘give them to me’ – and you could see everything inside. So I autographed them for them,” stated Khan.

Khan’s reference to “girls” with printouts of his naked body scan can only refer to female airport security staff responsible for processing the images produced by the scanners, “professionals” who are supposed to instantly delete the images, according to Lord Adonis. [Link.]

Although the actor seems to be using the story as a humorous, self-deprecating little anecdote, I’m sure we can all appreciate the privacy concerns this brings up for everyone – celebrity or not. Certainly the security at the airport should face repercussions for their unprofessional behavior. What do you guys think? More evidence of how the far-reaching long-arm of Big Brother invades the privacy of individuals, or funny story of a self-conscious actor who is afraid the whole world now knows the size of his package? Will Khan become the poster boy for the conservatives who decried full-body scanners right from the moment they were implemented? Stranger things have happened.

  1. IM SICK OF THIS SITE STEROTYPING AND VIEWING EVERY EAST INDIAN AS “BROWN” INDIA IS A COUNTRY FILLED WITH HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF RACES AND ETHNIC GROUP NOT EVERYONE FROM OF IN INDIA HAS FUCKING BROWN SKIN HOLY SHIT EVEN THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE OF INDIA DIDNT HAVE BROWN SKIN

  2. I get it that movie stars have egos, but shahrukh khan, whose acting skills should emabarass him, has th ebiggest ego in bollywood. signing the body scan print outs without being asked is proof that he takes himself way too seriously. what if these girls were making fun of his lack lustre endowment. or just laughing at his repeated attempts at acting

  3. “I was a little scared. Something happens [inside the scans], and I came out. Then I saw these girls – they had these printouts. I looked at them. I thought they were some forms you had to fill. I said ‘give them to me’ – and you could see everything inside. So I autographed them for them,” stated Khan.

something about that sentence doesnt seem right.

  4. Phillygrrl,

Get over Shahrukh Khan obsession Phillygrrl, its annoying reading SRK stuff from you on SM, it has no content, all markings of a teenager’s infatuation. There are plenty of other important, newsworthy, blogworthy topics in the world and indeed in and on India.

There are plenty of thoughtful articles on privacy concerns and security needs on full body scans elsewhere, this post doesn’t add a single thing to the debate.

    SD

  5. SD, This is actually fairly interesting news. Everybody talks about privacy concerns with these machines; now a celeb is involved and bringing attention to the matter. FWIW the story made the front page of Drudge.

  6. I read that these machines dont have a “print” option on them so it is not possible for them to do that.

And there is no way female security guards are going to say “Here are the nude outlines we printed of you. Here is one and here is the other one. Does anyone else have nude pics of this guy that we can hand back to him?”

    The ego on this guy.

  7. what if these girls were making fun of his lack lustre endowment.

    Khan addresses that here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Nsr6ixWkI

But can’t tell if he’s alluding to being well-endowed himself or embarrassed coz he’s not.

He looks hot in that interview either way. I’d tap that whether it was big or not.

His nose makes up for it.

    😉

  8. i see something black in the lentils. or maybe it’s just the power of suggestion. the girls* were probably holding pizza cartons and the grease made a shape in the likeness of the mighty Jambon. what’s next? the jambon is sighted in paratha burn marks, maggi ketchup stains on tablecloths, oil stains underneath the toyota camrys, skidmarks on kacchas, what have you.

*heathrow doesnt have girls. it has mighty jananis with arms thicker than pork loins.

  9. Well, there are the “social conservatives” who object, but also the “civil libertarians”. This seems like such a bad idea that people from all parts of the political spectrum are against them.

But, hey, what’s wrong with being virtually naked for a few seconds? No one will see you.

  10. Khan claims he was first asked to play the TV game show host in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE but he turned it down because the character is a “cheat” and he didn’t want to portray a negative character.

Foolish. He’s Don! If that’s not negative, I don’t know what is. However, I bet he was indeed considered for the SM role, but was axed by the director…much like Ruslaan Mumtaz.

And yeah, it’s a publicity stunt. Watch the Ross show for visual cues.

  11. Different, I saw the interview on Jonathan Ross when it first came out a week ago, the context was that because he actually hosts Millionaire, people will think he cheats like Anil’s character. This is a fair point, as I recall when I was a child and Prem Chopra came to town, all the mothers would lock up their daughters!! Average Indians are Pindus man.

Re signing naked pictures, what would you do if the female staff at heathrow made you go thru an extra machine that showed your penis, and then in front of everyone asked you to sign it? DO you want to look the prude?

The man did good on his first British interview. He got a lot of credence.

May be BAA are right, but I know those machines are in existence, as UK Givt have beem mentioning them for a while. Easy way to check is ask any of the 20,000 asians ( desis) who are related to you and work there

  12. Meh, I’m with SK. I’d let them sign my lingam if requested.

    Someone said “lingam”???

  13. Surprised by all the hating directed at the man. He is one of few people in Bollywood that is smart, has a self-deprecatory sort of sense humour and is a devoted family man.

  14. Surprised by all the hating directed at the man. He is one of few people in Bollywood that is smart, has a self-deprecatory sort of sense humour and is a devoted family man.

    Ditto.

And his spontaneous humor is such a refreshing and lovable thing in an industry teeming with stuffy, self-important people.

  15. I’ll take the bait, SD 🙂

“Get over Shahrukh Khan obsession Phillygrrl.”

I may make a couple of self-deprecating comments about an SRK obsession, SD, but he just happens to in the news lately. Really.

“Its annoying reading SRK stuff from you on SM, it has no content, all markings of a teenager’s infatuation.”

Actually, I happen to think that the topics that MNIK and SRK’s experiences at airports in Newark and Heathrow are very relevant for readers in the US.

SRK in a film dealing with terrorism and 9/11? That’s a far cry from the romantic, mushy stuff he usually does. It’s a statement, a powerful one I think, and I believe people are interested in learning more.

“There are plenty of other important, newsworthy, blogworthy topics in the world and indeed in and on India.”

Sepia Mutiny isn’t just about topics in and on India. It’s about the South Asian diaspora. Btw, if you really have some great topics, shoot me a line at phillygrrls@gmail.com. News tips are always appreciated.

“There are plenty of thoughtful articles on privacy concerns and security needs on full body scans elsewhere, this post doesn’t add a single thing to the debate.”

It’s one of the biggest films stars in the WORLD, allegedly having his privacy invaded in exactly a way that authorities swore up and down the road would not happen. If we don’t mention it, it’s a glaring omission.

    Best,

    PG

  16. It’s one of the biggest films stars in the WORLD, allegedly having his privacy invaded in exactly a way that authorities swore up and down the road would not happen

Except for the fact that he was most likely lying to gin up publicity for his movie. Much like his crocodile tears over Pakistani players at the IPL.

Lying about the scanners, knowing the attention that his statements will receive, is mighty irresponsible given all the legitimate privacy and other concerns people have about them.

  17. I just saw ‘My name is Khan’ in a small town in desiland. It was good, a little serious but they pushed the religion card too much. That being said, the hype of the movie doesnt match the product…i give it a 3 out of 5.

‘3 Idiots’ is much better than MNIK.

  18. Yes, the problem with the Pakistani player issue is that they were available in the auction but none of the teams bid for them including Shahrukh Khan’s team so something doesn’t add up

  19. Hence the ‘allegedly.’

The way you used the word in your sentence:

It’s one of the biggest films stars in the WORLD, allegedly having his privacy invaded in exactly a way that authorities swore up and down the road would not happen

clearly buries the fact that he lied, instead focusing on a privacy violation that didn’t happen. It is precisely because he is a voice people will pay attention to that he has the responsibility not to whip up fear and doubt on something where there are already legitimate concerns. It does nobody any good, and it was quite a disgusting thing to do. Burying an “allegedly” in a sentence does not even begin to address the issue.

  20. Great post Phillygrrl !! I hereby send my phhukof to haters.

I grew up in a house where Bollywood was despised with a passion, desi movies were considered garbage and desi movie fans were ridiculed as morons. So I was surprised when my father recommended that I read an interview with SRK that was published somewhere recently. I will have to agree with most of the posters here that SRK comes out as a genuine, smart and witty individual. His recent interview on NPR is quite good.

Can’t stand his movies and can’t stand his (alleged) acting but I am a fan just ‘coz he is sticking it to the bastard Bal Thackeray and his marathi-manus-minions.

  21. just ‘coz he is sticking it to the bastard Bal Thackeray and his marathi-manus-minions.

if he actually cared, he could have voted with his money. he kept quiet before the auction and during the auction and somehow managed to give a damn conveniently just before his movie release. his pov might be right, but he is not some kind of brave revolutionary standing in opposition to that goon, thakre.

  22. if he actually cared, he could have voted with his money. he kept quiet before the auction and during the auction and somehow managed to give a damn conveniently just before his movie release. his pov might be right, but he is not some kind of brave revolutionary standing in opposition to that goon, thakre.

I am in agreement with you, I am not alleging that he is a saint, a great human or even a half decent actor. His ‘change of heart’ after IPL auction fiasco demonstrates his business acumen not his generosity.

I am just happy that he is sticking it to Thackeray. I was hoping that someone will take a stand against Thackeray even if it is out of pure self interest. India has moved way beyond where Thackerays are.

  23. India has moved way beyond where Thackerays are.

I wish that were true. Sadly, I think that goondagiri and playing to chauvinist sentiments is actually a winning political ploy. The SRK story has finally given thakre something to compete with his estranged nephew about. and note that cong is not straying far from playing the maratha card as well, recently approving a law about cab drivers being required to live in maharashtra for at least 15 years and knowing to speak marathi. i think the right phrase to describe this kind of behavior was coined by nitin pai – competitive intolerance.

  24. “He is one of few people in Bollywood that is smart, has a self-deprecatory sort of sense humour and is a devoted family man. ” This just shows how gullible the public is when it comes to celebrities.

SRK is an egomaniac who makes up stories or exaggerates incidents for attention. He and his clique of friends are known in London clubs for their “swinging” lifestyle which includes an open marriage and lots of drugs. Yes, he is devoted to his kids but the man is no saint.

BTW, it has been confirmed that the body scanning machines do not print out images there on site. So that story is a big lie.

  25. Can’t wait for more Aman ki Asha and pro-srk crap out of NDTV.

dont know what srk has to do with the blasts in your mind, but i don’t know what you think about the shiv sena forcing the police to secure all movie theaters by threatening violence against indians and indian property.

  26. If SRK had not made pro-pak statements, then Shiv Sena would not have created the cinema ruckus, we could have prevented Pune blast… But there have been so many blasts before.. There was a recent Pakislamic conference where they just happened to mention Pune.

  27. If SRK had not made pro-pak statements, then Shiv Sena would not have created the cinema ruckus

huh? the shiv sena had no option but to inflict violence on indians and destroy indian property because of srk’s statements??? quite the logic!

  28. Why stop at Shiv Sena? If koran did not abuse “idolators” and consigned them to hell, there would be no pune blasts. want to continue? you call..

  29. The Shiv Sena is for Marathi people more than for Hindus. They do not exactly treat Hindus from other regions of India very well either. They are pan-Hindu only when it convenient for them.

That article competitive intolerance overall was interesting, but so what I find common of Indian writers to overly dramatizes India. I find it ironic he mentions the banning of Satanic Verses in India as the point when this all started. Two Muslim victims of India’s intolerance – except that the people who put a hit on Salman Rushdie were his fellow Muslims, and that ban against his book most likely was to not offend Indian Muslims. Why did it take years for people to be offended by Husseins nude depictions of Hindu goddesses? First it assumes no one had been offended at that time. No doubt some may have been, but at that time all religions may have been equal targets, everyone was in the same boat. (though I wonder how things would have faired if Hussein was a Hindu who painted Muslim female figures from the Quran in the nude instead, or still as a Muslim to paint Muslim female figures in the Quran in the nude?) May the author is right about it starting with Rushdie. The government banned his book because it offended Muslims to the point some were willing to kill him and at least one country Iran issued a fatwa for his death.

However, if you are going to take action because one group is offended then it creates an unfair environment. Perhaps during Husseins time (that was before my time) before the SV banning, no one religion got special exemption. After one group got it with the Rushdie affair, then it brings up why one religious group’s feelings more important than any other religious peoples – all others? In that I agree with the writer the government should not have banned SV. In the same way I think the cartoon controversy in Europe and America is not being handled as well. Yale published a book about the Danish cartoons on Mohammed – without printing the cartoons! Fear won the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jyllands-Posten_Muhammad_cartoons_controversy Denmark is right now one of the centers of free speech conflict. Not too long ago Van Gogh was murdered for his offensive film.

People should be free to express their view. At the same time, people who are offended have just as much right to exercise their free speech – not vandalism not violence – about what they feel is wrong. SRK is free to be pro-Pak (I don’t know the controversy, but that seems to be what people commenting here are saying) and others are free to express their dissent (in a non-violent manner).

  30. “Where there is a will..a way”: Govt arrested 2000+ SS activists to facilitate the MNIK Caesarian! How many Simi/ Huji ppl have been arrested till date? Ashok Chavan waited under a tree for a few hours to greet rahulbaba. It shows the priorities. Jai ho.

  31. SRK strikes me as a liar (see article posted above @#17). Perhaps he just wanted a way to talk about how well endowed he is. This stupid stunt plus the hoopla over his alleged airport security issues a la his MNIK to me lowers my opinion of him. I never thought he was a great actor – too dramatic even for Bollywood. But I had no strong opinion of him as a person, until his airport antics of late.

Those recent blasts should be looked into, and be a top priority. I don’t see any evidence that it is not as of now. I did not know what Shimi/Huji was so I googled them and found this link: http://counterterrorismblog.org/2008/05/india_multiple_terror_blasts_i.php It looks like they are allied with LeT. BTW I read somewhere that it was also near a synagogue? Does anyone know if that is true and if that was done deliberately?

I am no fan of SS as I mentioned before. However, they are free to protest – non-violently. But the police should intervene when they step outside the law if that is what happened. If SS were protesting peacefully then the police shouldn’t have intervened so forcefully and have allowed the peaceful protest.

I have not seen MNIK so I don’t know what the big deal is with that film. But if it is a stupid movie, people don’t have to see it. Feel free to express yourself non-violently whatever your opinion. Ashok Chavan may be going to far with being concerned about one person SRK (I don’t know much about AC’s behavior), but the physical safety of ALL civilians must be maintained.

  32. He and his clique of friends are known in London clubs for their “swinging” lifestyle which includes an open marriage and lots of drugs

In my book, a consensually open marriage and/or drugs are not necessarily inconsistent with being a devoted family man. Conversely moral blowhards can be disrespectful and hurtful to their families. not that they have to be so.

  33. “: Govt arrested 2000+ SS activists to facilitate the MNIK Caesarian! How many Simi/ Huji ppl have been arrested till date?

what, random muslims don’t get hauled off the streets and arrested? and how long were the ss “activists” in jail for their goondagiri? i dont know how you can even begin to apologize for the ss.

  34. Is there something wrong with you. On the one hand we have some people protesting a pro-paki gesture in a city that was held hostage by pak islamists for five days. Many hundreds mowed down with AK47’s with proven assistance and guidance from the Paki state. Nothing wrong with them protesting. In fact, they are entitled to it. On the other hand, we have a bomb blast which killed nine people and critically injured many more, limbs torn apart, that kind of stuff.

Here is the record of Islam in India:

    http://voiceofdharma.org/books/negaind/

It’s not like this stuff started yesterday with Shiv Sena. Ridding the world of “unbelief” in Allah/God is a basic premise in Monotheism. Entire continents have been put through the ringer pursuing this “holy vision.”
