  1. A halloween site makeover? Really, do we have to wait till Monday? You are stalling lives by doing this 😉

  2. I think posters should be forced to register with SM, then fill out an intricate profile replete with highly detailed biodata. I’d like to see how I stack up to other posters in this regard as I’ve actively been working to damage my marketability for the past 10+ years. The blank spots in my resume reference various periods spent contracting scabies in LES Anarchist squats. Top that!!

  3. Wow, congratulations! “SM: The Musical” is a fantastic idea, and I think it was a long time in the making. The true victory will be when the Bollywood adaptation is under production. Naturally, starring the “SM: The Blog” cast as the heros/heroines.

  4. Your torments call us like dogs in the night. And we do feed, and feed well. To stuff ourselves on other people’s torments. And butter our plain bread with delicious pain… Funerals, marriages, lost loves, lonely beds ” that is our diet. We suck that misery and find it sweet. We can smell the young ulcerating to be men a thousand miles off. And hear a middle-aged fool like yourself groaning with midnight despairs from halfway round the world. (IMDB)

ooh evil one, must you let us wait?

  5. Fuck yeah I would eat the moon! Ribs are sooo good. I have fond childhood memories of getting ribs with my dad and eating them at home.

Which reminds me, I am in India right now — and you see chickens, goats and cows running around eating garbage on the streets and grass that grows right out from sewage ditches. Then people eat the chickens/goats and drink the cows milk!

In the US I have been told that chickens are fed chicken feed etc. and I guess they are no where near sewage or garbage so I guess it is better to be a vegetarian while in India.

Sadaiyappan, sorry to burst your bubble – happy reading!! Also, google is your friend – if you have the stomach for it, that is. 😉

  7. Whatever it is, it’s probably related to the News and Events tabs – because Chaitan is shutting them down for ‘maintenance’ tonight. I’m guessing/hoping we’ll have (i) reader ranking of news stories (ii) lifting of the 100-word limit to (say) 250) words (iii) – a combination of the first two – to effectively have reader-submitted ‘posts’, that are also ranked by other readers.

The ranking is computed in real time, but each IP can vote only once on any post. Also, no IP can submit more than two posts during any 24 hour period that begins at midnight EST. Every eight hours, the top 5 ranked posts move to the top of the News Tab. Any reader who consistently produces top ranked posts in the News Tab (e.g., gets in the top 5 for more than 15 days in consecutive months) will be invited to consider guest blogging for SM. To counter the inherent non-judgementality of SMers (aha!) which would manifest itself in a reluctance to rank posts – the number of clicks a post gets – normalized for IP, so only one click per IP would count – can be used to reality-check rankings.

I suggest that if this algorithm were coded, and implemented over the News Tab for the past six months, KXB would naturally emerge at the top, double-validating his guest-blogger status. Also, KXB, when are you getting yourself an avatar ? 🙂

That’s not exciting enough for this kind of suspense-porn post.

  9. Abhi has a Nature paper?

I almost had a paper in Science last year 🙂 Ah well. My stuff can be found in the Astrobiology Journal.

For the record (re: all the other comments above), I am the biggest sci-fi freak ever. And I think Heroes sucks.

  10. Heroes is more comic book than it is sci-fi. They try to emulate that old school comic book feel where it is a little too much good versus evil and a little too unrealistic.
