Jindal Leads…

I was in New Orleans earlier this week and it was interesting to see a Desi (sur-)name so broadly plastered throughout the city… Apologies in advance for the grainy cameraphone pict –

Jindal Also Holds a Commanding Lead in Signage on Convenience Stores 😉

With just over a week to go, Reuters reports that Bobby’s on track to a historic, no-run-off victory

Republican Bobby Jindal holds a commanding lead in the Louisiana governor’s race heading into the October 20 primary, close to the 50 percent majority needed for an outright win, two polls showed.

…In Louisiana’s open primary system, candidates from all parties compete in the primary. If no candidate receives more than half the votes, the top two contenders meet in a runoff.

…The WWL-TV poll of 500 registered voters released on Thursday showed Jindal leading with 50 percent and the nearest of three top rivals, Democratic state Sen. Walter Boasso, at 9 percent, while 22 percent of voters declined to indicate a choice.

  1. 18 – 20: if you think tears are a mostly feminine expression of faith, you should meet my 80-something (hindu) dad who weeps for joy whenever we talk about how good god has been to us … i’ll be seeing him this weekend and we’ll sit on the deck in the afternoon sunshine, sip tea, reminisce, and (i’m fairly certain) laugh and cry … probably both at once … come and join us if you’re in the bay area …

testosterone levels drop in males as they age (especially beyond 50). they notoriously get weepier (and curvier, and often their voice gets higher). there’s a reason that many christian groups have sausage deficits in the 20something age group ;0)

  3. I have a sister that married an indian catholic, they had a hindu and catholic wedding. time went by, he started to get more religious, they brought up their kids catholic (she would go to church and not take communion) – then she converted. didn’t tell any of us until much after the fact. we were all upset at some level. though we (other siblings) were raised very liberal we were and are hindu. best described as skeptics who like and respect tradition while not being blind to faults (caste etc) in our own or other traditions.

since she converted i paid more attention to the conversion activity in india and asia and find it very interesting and tragic. how do you get well heeled and dogmatic evangelicals to think rationally before going into poor communities and proselytizing in a free society? look at south korea now over half christian (at the expense of buddhism) and growing and the legions of evangelicals they send out. look at the reaction to their activities in places like afghanistan etc. in isreal most christian groups have a self imposed ban on evangelising and also they have anti conversion laws as well. but this is because of the collective guilt christiandom has as a result of centuries of anti-semitism topped off by the holocaust. evangelicals feel free to demonize and vilify hinduism without any restraint at all. do you ignore, defend, counter-evangelize or let the loony bin right wings do all the talking?

there are good things in the hindu / buddhist / sikh faiths that simply do not exist in other religious traditions PLUS everyone gets a second chance to evolve through karma instead of burning in hell for eternity (how can they really honestly believe that bunk) and your 7 year old gets to look at happy fun versions of the creator instead of torture scenes in your place of worship.

ok enough rambling – bottom-line Boddy Jindal is an opportunistic orio – as nani would say naya mussalman jada pyaz khata hai ( apologies to all not naya mussalmans)
