Finally, Indian Christmas carols

On our News Tab SM reader Pallavi introduces us to the music of “Boymongoose.” They’ll be dropping their album, Christmas in Asia Minor, just in time for the Holidays:

1. Thanking You
2. 12 Days Of Christmas
3. Single Girls
4. Internet Dating (Radio Saffron)
5. Once In Rahul Dravid’s City
6. Oh Therapy
7. No More Brown
8. It Had To Be Said (Radio Saffron)
9. Hark the Herald, Angel Singh
10. The Worst Motel
11. Miss India (Radio Saffron)
12. We Are Wishing You A Merry Christmas
13. Think Of The Children

Here is a video of their version of 12 Days of Christmas. It’s an outstanding 4 minute waste of time (and the animation is solid):

  1. hell naaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

this shit is awesome! thanks to this, i am energized to continue studying for my test

    pc out

  2. That was wonderful! It’s hard to forget because of the repitition. Thanks, abhi, for making my day.

Is this the first time that the words ‘IIT graduates’ , or even ‘IIT’ have appear in a song? Perhaps also ‘dowry’?

  3. Wonderful, wonderful, I can’t stop laughing. Is the singer a mallu or tam? Love the way “buttter chickkans” is said.

  4. the animation is the cutest thing ever. my favorite of the twelve are the nosy in-laws hands down… LOL.

  5. Is the singer a mallu or tam?

I’d say mallu simply because of “sewen-elewen workers”.

Either way, this has been a long time coming. =]

  6. The bhangra they pull out for the “8 bollywood filums” is the shiznit. I don’t even know what they’re saying in the bhangra section, it just rocked! 🙂

  7. ROTFLMAO! Fabulous! But they’re going to get their membership in the Desi Community stripped for not knowing that there are eleven in a cricket team, not twelve!

  8. I don’t even know what they’re saying in the bhangra section

I think they’re singing “I didn’t eat the baby, the dingo ate the baby”

  9. Absolutely fantastic. Abhi, thank you so much for this. You have absolutely got to link to this article (or post the clip again) when you have SM’s official Christmas thread in December.

Brilliant, brilliant song, and superb video to go with it. The bit about the Lotus made me laugh the most.

  10. Fantastic find. And what gorgeous animation.

The bit about the Lotus made me laugh the most.

    Me too.

  11. I did wonder about the twelve cricketers. Maybe the umpire was in on it :-). Yeah, Lotus was awesome.

  12. Haha, cute. Anyone else notice the resemblance to those infamous Amul ads?

I loved those Amul ads to pieces and would anxiously await what each new one! I love a good Christmas album, so you better believe I’ll be spreading the word on this new cultural treasure.

  13. I find the fake accent jarring. Especially one faked by a brown. Aren’t fake indian accents passe (like apu from the simpsons played by Azaria)? Or is the trend just catching on in Oz.

  14. That was hilarious.

During the last year, ICC (Intl Cricket Council) had this experiment with 12 member cricket teams. Eleven on the field at a time..but the 12th member could be substituted to bat, bowl and field. Thankfully they did away with it this year.

  15. Finally a christmas song I can relate to!!

The lotus bit was hilarious…think the lotus, drive the lotus. Oh Okay 🙂

  16. thats one of the funniest shit i seen in while haha.. how do i listen to other songs in that album? anymo videos?

  17. the seven eleven workers…the lotus…THE DINGO ATE MY BABY???

    awesome. totally great. touchdown.

  18. GG, You’re right, it could be “IT” and not “IIT”. Although I have heard “Aiyyttee mein padhta hai”. :-). Also, I thought there might have been some special significance to “six IIT graduates” since there were six campuses until recently.

brown_fob, why were you unhappy about the 12-person rule on the team?

  19. I guess the twelfth man has always been there, but more as a potential injury substitute/water carrier for the rest of the team. I hated the “supersub” experiment too – it just gives the team winning the toss a random advantage because they can keep a batsman or bowler in for the first innings depending on whether they choose to bat or field, and then conveniently bring in someone for the reverse task in the second innings. Really daft. the Power-play idea was somewhat better.

  20. actually, looking at the myspace site, i think the singer is a mallu…looks like nish was involved with some of the other tracks.

  21. This is spectacular. Thank you soooo much! I was searching for some funny and inappropriate Christmas music for “Cube Caroling”, and this will definitely be included.

All the best for a counter-cultural holiday season, have a Super Solstice, Krazy Kwanzaa, Hairy Hannukka, etc.

  22. lol this is effing hilarious! i noticed the amul ad similarity… i thought the telemarketer one was so funny! Good day mate. AAAHHHHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! :D:D:D

  23. Really people? I didn’t find this particularly witty at all– just a lot of played out stereotypes. Are we that hard up for comedic representation that we’ll laugh at anything? We can do better.

  24. Oh, and #18, I completely agree with you. The fake accent was reminiscent of the mocking generally perpetrated by people who are making fun of us…and we’re laughing right along with them I guess (and yes, I know that the creator is brown. doesn’t mean much).

  25. Saftey Patrol Of Ontario

The song is amazing. it is really addicting
