Los Angeles Meetup – The 24 Hour Countdown [Update]

This is your last reminder that the Sepia Mutiny Los Angeles End of Summer Blow Out Meetup is less than 30 hours away!

I know, I know — what’s with all these reminders? You already have over 30 people RSVPed for the meetup, a Ms. Pac Man Challenge, and goodie bags. Why would anyone within the two hour driving radius of downtown Los Angeles not want to come to the Los Angeles meetup?
This message is for you – the folks teetering on the edge of ‘sounds like fun’ or ‘I’ll be such a dork if I go to a blog meetup.’ This is not a blog meetup. I repeat, not a blog meetup. It is THE Sepia Mutiny Los Angeles End of Summer Blow Out. You will not lose Los Angeles hipster street cred for joining us on Friday. You may even gain some Altern-Desi street cred for coming out with us on Friday. If you are a blogger, a commenter, a lurker, and yes, even a banned-from-commenting reader (ahem), you are all welcome to come.
When: Friday, September 15th
Time: 7:00pm – really late. (Happy Hour goes until 9:00pm)
Where: Golden Gopher 417 W. 8th St. Los Angeles, 90014 [map]
To recap: Free parking. Bring rolls of quarters for Mutinous Ms. Pac Man Challenge. Happy Hour until 9pm. Goody bags for the first 27 people. Name tags. Pictures of/with Pardesi Gori/ Brown Sage. Abhi and Vinod. Robin. TazPac/ Sepia Destiny Aunty-wingwoman. Voter registration forms. Ass grabbing (if you are lucky). Maybe a chick fight, maybe some girl on girl. The chance to use the pick up line, “Is that a roll of quarters in your pocket, or are you just…” And, of course, the chance to hang out with the coolest macacas on the West Siiiiide in downtown Los Angeles.

I dunno, with all the tension, I think I’ll have to bring rolls of quarters stuffed in sock for self protection. Los Angeles is straight up thuggin.

  2. Gazer –

    HMF – I’m a tease.

GujuDude – Is that a roll of quarters stuffed in sock in your pocket, or are you just — ?

Note to myself: Folks in LA creative thugs.

you will, however, get another reminder when it’s less than 15 hours away. 🙂

    I keed, I keed.

  5. Jazz –

We got the whole age range coming…but it’s usually the late 20s to mid-30s. Don’t let age intimidate you, come!

  6. late 20s to mid-30s

I’m in that age range, and I never COMPLETLY got used to being out of high shcool. jeez. that age range makes me feel old. damn it. im not even married yet.

  7. im not even married yet.

you’re in luck – didn’t you know that shadhi.com was sponsoring this SM gathering?

  8. Long Beach in the house, ahhh! Yeah Oaktown… Oakland definately in the house. Frisco, yeah, Frisco… : Eh, You know LA up in this… Pasadena, where you at? Yeah, Inglewood… Inglewood always up to no good. Even Hollywood tryin’ to get a piece of that… Sacramento, Sacramento, where you at?

  9. peoples: i am 32. are there any in my age-group? or are we talking about twenty somethings here?

Half the bloggers at the Mutiny are in your age-group. 😉 I used to be bang in the middle of our “age range” and I’m 31. Siddhartha, Ennis and Vinod are all older than you, I can’t remember how old the Professor is…he might be, too. 🙂

At the meetups I’ve attended, you would’ve fit right in…all of you would…well, almost all. 😉

  10. peoples: i am 32. are there any in my age-group? or are we talking about twenty somethings here?

beta do not vurry, trust in hurree.

i might be here, but so vish to be there.

dont get me wrong, so i say it in song,

ve may be toothless and blind – but ve still love a suitable behind.

  11. ah, those verre the days. ve enjoyed the vantage point. it hasnt been the same since the Oprration.

    🙂

you’re very photogenic, anna – but that cant be news to the bulk of the readership.

  12. and whoever said brown girls don’t have legs.

Hey, I said that…and had I known you’d challenge my argument with visual evidence, I would’ve mentioned some other body parts. But for now, we’ll have to make a southern exception.

  13. quick note hairy_d: SM banned patronizing comments a while ago..

    um.. come again.

anyhow… i was just being fresh. dont read too much into it. chitchat’s not my strong suit anyway.

    enjoy your trip.

  14. i’m at around the caltech area

I’m just a little bit outside the caltech area (meaning I don’t have to deal with South Pas yuppies). But it looks like you already got a ride. It’s ok, I run on IST and sloth-like mental abilities, so I would have been late anyway 🙂

  15. I think I’ll be the youngest one there. Tazpac Aunty, don’t outdo yourself =)

  16. I think I’ll be the youngest one there.

nope. i think my baby cousin (who may be in college, but will always be my little booboo) might show.

  17. do you have to be desi to come? I am half desi and i might bring a non-desi friend

Nope, come one come all. We have confirmed that there will be a number of non-desis in the house. The only requirement is that you have to be a bit mutinous.

  18. Shy!

COME! and bring your friend-!!! We are expecting at least 40 people to come…desi, half, non – whatever- as long as you have a love for all things mutinous! it’ll be fun. PROMISE.

  19. I’m an transexual large-wave surfing eskimo with gills that moonlights as a ninja, can I come?

  20. I’m an transexual large-wave surfing eskimo with gills that moonlights as a ninja, can I come?

Awww, I’d just like to point out that you would be WELCOME at an SF/DC/NYC meetup, so if you’re around those cities, bring your trannie self on down. I heart ninjas. 😉

Can’t wait to see the pictures from this meetup!

  21. so apparently banksy is holding an exhibition at an abandoned warehouse not 3 miles from the golden gopher. think I might check that out before I mosey on over.

    info here.

  22. If it’s cool, I have a friend joining me.

This is turning into the famous baseball field in the middle of Iowa. “If you build it, they will come”, or in this case, “If Sepiamutiny hosts it, they will come.”

  23. GujuDude,

Really what would ever give you the idea you could bring a friend?!?(teasing) If all the people who say they are coming come, we are looking at like 45 people. Goody bags= only 31. There will be some folks missing out…

I’ll see all of y’all tonight!

    Don’t forget the quarters!

  24. No friends! Umm … unless they’re really hot, then bring all you want. Or if they can hook me up with somebody who is really hot. Or if they laugh at my jokes. Ummm … yeah. =)

  25. …AND no pardesi gori. I’ll give a better review of the meetup in the morning. But it WAS the best sepia meetup EVER.

  26. Great job with the meetup, it looked like everybody was having a great time. I know I did. Also, thank you for the sweet CD mixtape!

  27. No Pardesi Gori? Am I surprised? Heck no.

Taz: Want a play by play…including your job of being Sepia Mutiny Aunty…. The looks of joy when receiving the goody bags…to when Abhi was ‘ass grabbed’..(joking of course…)

  28. …AND no pardesi gori.

Great. Now we’ll have more people believing that pardesi gori and taz are really one and the same person … “How do you know? Have you ever seen them together in the same room?”

Please note the timestamp, people. 3 AM PST. That means that either a) the meetup rocked out until the wee hours of the morning b) taz went to a more rocking party afterwards c) taz spent hours stuck in traffic driving back

Choice a (although an “all of the above” answer is also possible). Even the hard partying Vinod was completely exhausted. I will upload pics soon.
