A big sloppy hug

Thank you again to everyone that donated cash over the last 36 hours to keep this blog running for the next year and to allow us to make some cool new improvements. I just want to give you all a big sloppy hug. We are taking the thermometer and the Paypal link down for now. Counting the people who had asked to mail in checks, we will make our $1000 goal for the year Whether you sent in $1 or a $100 we appreciate your contribution and will try and live up to the high expectations.

Despite the fact that even the smallest of donations means a lot to us, we wanted to single out the following people for going well beyond the call of duty in the amount they were able to donate this time around:

1) Brimful– Given her donation this year and last year she would own a substantial amount of stock in SM if we went public.

2) Seema K.- A dedicated reader and tipster from the East Coast. You rock.

3) DesiDudeinAustin/Gotham- He will be co-hosting the first Texas meet-up with me in a few months.

4) Yo Dad- I promise to mow the lawn next time I’m at home.

5) Vijay C.- We appreciate the love.

6) My attorney in Chicago- You know how I’m going to thank you.

7) VMN Rao- Drinks are on me this weekend.

8) Mahesh G.- Much thanks and please come to a meet-up if you can.

9) Our favorite Canadian (a.k.a. Neha)- We are giving you a second monkey and making you the SM colonial governor of the territories of Canada.

Now, ideally I would post all your names as gratitude but I know that some of you want to keep your privacy. Please try and make it to a meet-up so that we can thank you properly and feel free to email us with any suggestions for improving the site (we might already be working on your idea ;).

And now we return you to your regularly scheduled Mutiny.

  1. Abhi, does purchase of the official SM wearable merchandise help defray the cost of compulsive refreshing?

yes. I think we will be refreshing our merchandise though as well. I hope so at least. 🙂

  2. Speaking of Chicago, meet-ups and SM merchandise. For the hundredth time, when do we get to wear our SM-merchandise to the chicago meetup? July 1st is 10 days away.

    …another thread hijacked by the chicago-meetup-whiners 🙂

  3. Abhi: You and your promises. What about all the past promises? Like: “Dad I promise to concentrate on studies and spend not too much time Socializing”. Or, “I will try and get atleast five hours sleep”. Or “I WILL TRY MY BEST TO MAKE YOU GRANDPA SOON”? Let me know whenever you are ready. Glad you met the target so quickly. Love….Dad

  4. “Dad I promise to concentrate on studies and spend not too much time Socializing”. Or, “I will try and get atleast five hours sleep”. Or “I WILL TRY MY BEST TO MAKE YOU GRANDPA SOON”?

yeah Abhi, what happened, huh? huh?

    😛

  5. if there’s talk of new merchandise, may I humbly suggest that an item or 2 incorporating or focusing on the coolness of Yo Dad would probably sell like crazy…

  6. Thanks for the hug, monkey, and title. I shall nickname my new friend Mogambo. It’s awesome that y’all are set for another year, can’t wait for the exciting new changes!

    I second DD’s merch suggestion…

  7. ok now i am mad. I said just wait till the end of the week till i get paid. I come here today to actually make my contribution, lo and behold its been taken off. i wanted a hug too 🙁

altho i am glad you guys made the money so quick..bla bla bla

for next year i have got an idea of auctioning dates with the bloggers.

  8. I was hoping that you guys would wait till the end of the week.

Now I dont know about auctioning dates, but if memory serves me correctly, there was some gossip about a calendar.

Congrats fellas, now I have to settle for one of your t-shirts.

  9. Why YES Desi Nole molay, the SEPIA HUNKS calendar is just aching to be made. I have volunteered all the hunks on here for it and I keep hiding behind furniture at the bunker pool with a camera in hand but so far no shots 🙁 Monkeys might have given the game away, dudes just keep jumping into the pool fully clothed.

  10. Neha kutti sukhamaano?

You should look for one of those spy cameras, like in a purse or a pen, then you might have a good chance. Still better, you might want to make friends with this guy. A nice coat of paint should make the operation covert.

  11. even if we do want remain anonymous i think we still want a hug… virtually of course…but nonetheless.

  12. Neha kutti sukhamaano?

You lost me at kutti, Desi Nole 🙂 All I know is moley, evadey, ninda perinda, poda patti, kundi, boodam/predum/pishyashym, and vaynokki. And 1-10.

Thanks for the spy tips, one step closer to Sepia Hunks calendar. Once I paint that cameratruck all brown they won’t notice a thing 🙂

  13. You lost me at kutti, Desi Nole 🙂 All I know is moley, evadey, ninda perinda, poda patti, kundi, boodam/predum/pishyashym, and vaynokki. And 1-10.

I think he was asking if you’re well?

  14. even if we do want remain anonymous i think we still want a hug… virtually of course…but nonetheless.

We would never dishonor your kindness by not hugging you. We like to hug. In fact, Abhi often ponders this truth as he stares off in to the distance (as visionary thinkers are wont to do) and then he murmurs brilliance like, “hugs…not drugs”.

Which mutineer would you like to get to second base with hug?

  15. Of course! Now that you say it I can see it, SUKHamaano, thank you m’lady A N N A.

I am well, Desi Nole…tamey kem cho?

  16. Anna:

I think he was asking if you’re well?

I was thinking Wassup in Malayalam. But since you are the true malayalee, I take your translation.

Which mutineer would you like to get to second base with hug?

I knew I screwed up by not writing a check. Dammit.

    Neha

    You lost me at kutti

Wassup? For a second I thought you were a malayalee and hence the excitement, sorry abt. that.

  17. Neha

    tamey kem cho?

I’m guessing that’s gujju for kuttan (Male version of kutti) sukhamaano?.

    Doing good, thank you.

And Anna, thanks for the translation.

  18. The Dear Nole,

I just got off the phone with my mom– she said we’re both right, but of course it also depends on inflection, region, whether you tilt your head to the side, if the moon is full, etc. 😉

    DDiG,

She was my inspiration for that comment! I almost linked to that! 😀

  19. i didnt donate much. but am glad it made a diffrence. Hey anyone wants to donate to India for a good cause. check out IDRF : that is india development and relief fund. It has been targeted lately because of christian missionaries as its money helps the tribals and prevents their conversion to christianity. thanks.

  20. For a second I thought you were a malayalee and hence the excitement, sorry abt. that.

My bad. Just before commenting I was writing an email to my bff, who is malayalee, Tina affectionately known as Tina molay. It was I getting excited and thinking I was a malayalee 🙂 Sometimes I like to think I’m close, love the folk, love the food, love the films, dated a mallu man once, what else can a guju girl do, heee.

  21. Houstondesi

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but not everyone finds the work of IDRF to be a “good cause” — see here and in particular here for a different perspective.

  22. dated a mallu man once, what else can a guju girl do, heee

    With the Moustache and all?:)

  23. Dammit, I was about to get paid too. That was too fast. :-p

    It’s getting hot in herre…

I’m afraid it’s that time of year when that metaphor has lost all charm for me. Does it even exist in Indian languages? Everything that comes to mind is the cooling rays of love.

  24. With the Moustache and all?:)

UberMetroMallu – I blame our breakup on his lack of mooch. Perhaps if he had kept a mooch I would of been too busy brushing it to think about all the stuff that just didn’t work between us 🙂

  25. Neha, I lost my keyring in Ennis’ beard once and spent half the day trying to recover it, or else I couldn’t get in the house or start my car!

  26. Dear Anna:

    she said we’re both right

Nice! Do thank Mrs.P for the help.

Can we please get back to the two subjects

I picked up bits and pieces when I lived in Coimbatore (which is on the border of Kerala and Tamilnadu), Friends who spoke both languages (sometimes a concoction), Mallu movies (They made awesome movies) and frequent trips across the border.

About the hugging part, are there any other means of getting on the list? Sending Mrs. P some flowers and thanking her… Helping Neha / you strategically plant some cameras in the bunker or Hooking Abhi up with a badminton coach…

    Neha:

Sometimes I like to think I’m close, love the folk, love the food, love the films, dated a mallu man once

I second all that and OMG! their language is the sweetest one I have ever heard and of course the state is so awesomely pretty.

I blame our breakup on his lack of mooch

Very interesting theory, wonder if my relationship had the same problem…

  27. You really should have a perm-a-link so contributions are always welcome. Serious, I would put in five bucks a month for the stuff I read here, think about it…the DailyNews sucks, this is much better…funny, smart, and real issues…none of the K-Fed shit. I will make sure and send in my contribution at the end of this week…thus, can I get an address sent to Joaquinochoa@hotmail.com thanks!
