I yelled “Blog-life” as I emptied the clip

I am not a happy blogger. Every day on Sepia Mutiny I give some of my suga’ away for free. Don’t get me wrong. Blogging is a lifestyle. Wannabe bloggers sell out to the man and go all corporate. I believe in the small but dedicated following, playing the backroom internet cafes around the world where people log on even in the dead of night. Still, it would be nice to see some perks once in a while. A bigger dressing room and some bubbly every now and again wouldn’t be insulting to my sensibilities. Last week I mentioned that this guy got a $100,000 salary for staying at home all day and watching Dukes of Hazards re-runs and blogging about it. Where is my 100K for blogging about meaningful things? Also, last week I read that the Pennsylvania State Tourism Office hired several bloggers to road-trip around the state, have as much fun as possible, and blog about it to attract tourists. What the f*ck! What is this? Where is the beautiful struggle? Where is the sweat, blood, and tears? Blogging shouldn’t be about getting paid to roadtrip. I had just begun to calm down when Patrix sent us a tip. Two of the Pennsylvanian bloggers were desi girls. Meet Manisha and Preethi:

So what will Manisha and Preethi been doing?

We are both really excited to begin our roadtrip excursions in Pennsylvania! On these trips we will be traveling to the Poconos, Philadelphia & New Hope and staying right here, at home, in Pittsburgh. During our travels we will be visiting museums, shopping, trying out the spas while exploring the cities.

We’ve been living in Pittsburgh for almost two years, but we’ve been so busy with graduate school that we haven’t had time to discover all that the Steel City has to offer. We’ll also be traveling a bit south of the ‘Burgh to the luxurious Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa. We can’t wait to pamper ourselves! After our adventures in the Pittsburgh area, we’ll move on to Philly & New Hope, where, among other things, we’ll visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the New Hope Winery.

Our final destination will be the Poconos, where we are really looking forward to shopping at The Crossings Premium Outlets and pampering ourselves with more spa treatments. We’ll be doing a lot of fun activities on our trips that we haven’t mentioned, so we hope that you’ll come hang out with us by checking our blogs!

Gosh Dammit! I too have been busy with graduate school. Where is my roadtrip and shopping spree?

On the right hand column of the page you can click on the video clips and listen to the two ladies tell you a little about themselves. They are both fine young things and apparently single judging from their conveniently featured biodata:

Names: Manisha & Preethi Ages: 26 & 27
Marital Status: Single
Born in: Preethi: Franklin, PA, Manisha: Pittsburgh, PA
Currently Live in: Pittsburgh, PA
Occupation: Graduate Business Students

Manisha, if you are reading this then call me girl, I’m single too.

On the very first day of their trip the dynamic duo stopped at a day spa:

We visited the Jacque Dessange Spa & Salon in Shadyside for a day of beauty treatment. We both got French Manicures with a manicurist and facials with Megan. The 90-minute facial was customized to meet the needs of each of our skin type and we left looking radiant as ever. Megan does a wonderful job of massaging your face and giving it the treatment it needs and deserves. She does a great job of making you feel comfortable in the beginning and then lets you relax as she does her magic. Megan goes through a series of cleansing routines, exfoliation, and applies a mask that is customized to your skin. We would definitely recommend her if you are interesting in getting a facial – and the price is very reasonable for the quality!

My friggin’ neck hurts from blogging for humorless SM readers all day. Where is my massage at the end of the day? My face has been burned by the glare of the computer screen and could use some exfoliation as well.

These girls peddle the “Pop” equivalent of blogging. Its catchy, easy to read, and glamarous. They make the big bucks. I learned my blogging from the mean streets. I’m not bitter though. It’s all about the struggle.

  1. It’s our own Simple Life: Roadtrip and instead of Paris & Nicky, we’ve got Manisha & Preethi. Pretty cool stuff.

  2. Humorless?!!! When have we ever said anything humorless? I think your post was blah blah blah colonialism blah blah blah flobee blah blah Republicans suck blah blah blah Vinod is almost always wrong blah blah desi blah blah blah blah.

We will try harder to entertain you in the future 🙂

  3. Don’t worry. Someday you’ll get the money and the girl. Or you’ll get the girl with money. Or you’ll get no money and no girl.

  4. lol, no offense to either of the traveling duo but Abhi you can do better.

Oh come now Suarav. Seeing that many of the threads have fiesty arguments (not discussions) and that a lot of people didn’t catch on right away to the Devdas thread.. I can at least see WHY we are conisdered humorless.

  5. Wonder when do they have time to attend ‘graduate school’…and damn! they get to put this on their CVs and have fun at the same time…Gah! the world is not fair.

Yeah, me too. The problem with typing is the total loss of tone if you don’t do it well 🙂

  7. A VERY reliable source has just tipped me off to the fact that Manisha is in fact ENGAGED and due to be married next month in NYC.

    WHAT A CROCK!

This is a huge black mark against the liars at the Pennsylvania State Toursit office. If they lied about her being single then they are probably lying about how fun their state is to visit. I wonder what her boyfriend has to say about this?

  8. I was working for a Brit Asian TV show where the female presenter was not allowed to tell ANYONE she had a black boyfriend, lest everyone turn off the channel en masse rather than fantasize that they could have her, or at least that she would end up with some nice Indian boy. So of course when she was out at clubs guys would grab her, and then wonder who the gold-toothed guy was that pulled them off her. Heh. So don’t cry, Abhi — it’s all lies in TV, er, blog-land. 😉

Oh, come now. Don’t let the heartbreak deprive you of the wonder that is Pennsylvania. Seriously! I’ve had free Mexican food at a restaurant in Philadelphia because it was opening and been told of 10 cent beer Mondays in Pittsburgh. And Pittsburgh is the 2nd hilliest city in the country. I’ve been told that a New Yorker writer once said that if Pittsburgh were in Europe, everyone would go visit it.

  10. if Pittsburgh were in Europe, everyone would go visit it.

well there’s their new department of tourism slogan, if I ever heard one…
