UPDATED: Have you seen Ambika Subramanyam?

She has been found, alive (thanks for the good news, Sandhya and Rajagopal):

Miller said Subramanyam, of Montgomery, contacted her parents early today, and the parents called police. No other details were immediately available.
“She will be talking with our detectives later today,” Miller said.

Have you seen Ambika.jpg Ambika Subramanyam is 18 years old and 5’6.

She went to the University Book Store in New Brunswick, NJ, on Friday afternoon to return some textbooks and hasn’t been seen since.

She is wearing a grey polo t-shirt and blue jeans. We are looking for anyone who may have had contact with Ambika or seen her.
She is a Rutgers Student.

Please study her picture, look at the website that her worried family has set up and forward a link to it to everyone you know in or near New Jersey.

If you have seen her, contact Mr. Martinez with the New Brunswick, NJ Police at 732-745-5200.

On Friday afternoon, Ambika called her father at about 3:15 to ask him about parking; he cautioned her about feeding the meter and that was the last time anyone spoke to her. When he didn’t hear from her in a few hours, he went to the parking lot and found her car, unlocked. Her purse, cell phone and keys were still on the passenger side seat. I have heard from so many friends of Ambika’s family, each of whom asked us to cover this. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with Ambika’s photograph, then send an email with a link to her site to your networks on this missing student’s behalf.

Please.

  1. I just saw a missing flyer for Ambika in the Columbia U. area last night and was quite shaken up for a few hours. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. Thanks for posting this Anna.

  2. We are all thoroughly shook up due to this incident. I’m hoping and praying she’s safe and sound. She went missing from about 3 PM on Friday and the weekend has not been easy. Waiting for the networks to pick this up and broadcast so tips can start flowing in. Please help!

  3. Great news!

Her mother’s plea in the earlier article gave me hope that this wasn’t a case of abduction (though we still don’t know for sure).

In a plea to her daughter, Sujatha Subramanyam said, “Come home right away. We’ll bring you home from wherever you are. We all want you back right away.” LINK

Even so, it must have been a nightmare of a weekend for them.

  4. Must resist urge to take her to task. The leaving of the keys and other personal belongings indicates something very troubling happened – either she was forced out in a hurry and she miraculously escaped or she is a weird kid who wanted to escape her strict parents and staged a disappearance, but then had a change of heart. Who knows until we get further updates. But either way, a bad thing happened.

  5. I used to work with her mother and she is a lovely woman. I am glad her daughter is OK, regardless of what happened.

  6. Yes, some of you whose comments were deleted should have resisted the “urge” to “take her to task”. Conjecture about what happened is neither productive nor welcome; comments closed.
