Liveblogging TOP CHEF: The January 7th edition [Updated]

[Note: I’m back in the bunker and re-watching Top Chef via DVR; it’s easier to hear and focus, now. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll amend the post accordingly.]

::

We’re back at Chef Spike‘s Good Stuff Eatery on the Hill, watching Top Chef with the funnest bunch in D.C.

Top Chef took a break from broadcasting, so did we. However, brown girl Radhika is STILL in the ring, so the Mutiny, which takes reality shows VERY seriously, is back in our booth, diligently ignoring our “black and white” hand-spun milkshake as we feverishly type for you.

No worries, West-siders– all spoilers will come after the jump. I’m from the left coast, I got mad love for y’all like that.

::

Quickfire challenge is sponsored by Diet Dr. Pepper…but thankfully, they are not required to USE the soda in their dish. They are also not allowed to use sugar. I don’t think it’s THAT tough…

QF Judge = some pastry chef who is about to have his own show on Bravo. Shocking that he’d be on Top Chef, innit?

Radhika’s take on QF challenge: bread pudding. She sounds confident about making it.

Fabio…reducing all of Top Chef to the World Cup. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bangs is so annoying.

Radhika’s dish= Whole wheat challah bread pudding, ground ginger, sauteed white peach, honey-roasted cashews. My take? YUM! The judge’s? “Vewwy advenchurus.” Not bad! He was mean to others!

Ariane’s whipped cream gets DENIED. The judge refuses to even taste it!

“If you over-whip whip cream, it turns in to butter”- Chef Spike

Everyone here is SHOCKED that Jamie did not use scallops (for those who don’t know, every dish she has made features them…it’s turning in to a running joke…er…but not to her). ๐Ÿ˜‰

Radhika’s dessert is one of the top three Quick fires!

…and Radhika wins, which is extra impressive, considering this judge was the crabbiest one EVER! Go team brown! We gots immunity!

I like the ominous music they play as Fabio collects the gals for Colicchio’s big talk.

Fabio likes to act out what he says, so “blind” and “blindfolded” both get uttered and accompanied by evocative gestures.

Radhika has immunity for one of the best situations ever?

Chef Spike says “Daikon and basil– is a no-go”. I’m inclined to agree.

Radhika wants to make a “great dish” despite her immunity meaning she doesn’t have to do so. She won’t go home no matter what. Great protestant work ethic from the Hindu! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Scallops are the breakout star of this season of Top Chef. You can quote me.

So it’s a double-elimination tonight, and one of you mutineers just asked me for a prediction on who I think is going home: bangs and Eugene. At least that’s what I’m hoping for. For bangs, that is. She’s annoying.

I just realized that we’re going to get one more week of liveblogging out of this, because Radhika is safe! w00t us!

“The Italian Stallion is making ravioli.” -Radhika

Radhika is 28. Just thought I’d throw that in there.

Stefan’s shirt says “I make good babies”. Hmmm.

Wow, they have to judge the other team’s food?? OUCH! Wasn’t expecting that (and neither were they!).

Top Chef, I must say, you are bringin’ the DRAMA! Good Stuff Eatery patrons are loving it.

New judge is a BRUTE! “I have found the weapons of mass destruction…they are in this bowl.”

“It was the bland leading the bland.” ZING!

I do believe this is a Top Chef first– someone’s dish got compared to cat food.

The Europeans are pure comic relief on this show.

LaMont Jordan (running back for the New England Patriots) just came by to meet Spike, he talked to me about my milkshake! The stars are bright here at GSE.

Whoa (not pronounced like Joey from “Blossom”). Scallop-monger has been vindicated!

I do appreciate Karla for trying to bring vegetarian cuisine to the show…I always feel like it gets neglected when it comes to haute cuisine. Or Top Chef in general.

It just occurred to me– Bangs is stoned! Or, to be more sepia about it, Bangs loves Bhang…s.

Padma looks sad while dismissing the three? What’s wrong, pretty?

I SO CALLED IT!!!! My “two” are going home.

Oy, next week’s ep looks hairy. Oh, wait, that was just the hog. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It certainly is! Chef Spike’s Eatery is one big open party (just get there early to make sure you get a seat!!)

  3. Yes! I’ll be back next week then ๐Ÿ™‚ Fun LiveBlogging! Its great for those of us with ADD. TV alone just doesn’t cut it anymore.

  4. Also, is anyone keeping up with the ‘Superstars of Dance’ show ? Its a competition of dance from various countries including India. India has done well in the solo but miserably in duets. US street dancing just blew everything off.

AGREED! I was laughing out loud when Fabio said that ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. I come back to Delhi to find that no one uploaded the latest episode on to youtube, which is the way I’ve been catching up. So I am going to go cry in a corner.

  7. Even though I read this ahead, I took a break for bar study to watch the latest episode on my DVR last night. It was still entertaining. I was said that Eugene went home, despite his daikon/basil snafu. I like Carla, but I like watching Eugene better. I like the Hawaiian element on the show – but I do agree with the judges in that his skill needed some upgrading even though his creativity was arguable upto par. I’m hoping that Carla’s cooking starts improving now that she’s staying. I was sad that Radhika’s bisque was a flop. AND, I want to learn how to make the German’s dumplings – they looked sooo good.

  8. I watched Top chef with Radhika’s bread pudding and it sounded really good, but now I cant remember the complete description. Can anyone help me, I want to try to recreate it at home. email me at emmakittow@yahoo.com
