Twenty-two more hours until the L.A. Meetup! There’s still time to flee!

L A meetup.jpg Ennis wanted me to remind you that tomorrow night is the L.A. meetup.

I briefly toyed with the idea of not posting this, just because I like intercoastal chicken* and I’m hyper-competitive about everything. Then I realized that even if the L.A. meetup was dazzling, glorious and fornication-laden…it would still occur in Los Angeles 😉

Please take lots of pictures, the SM Flickr group has been woefully neglected, as has our Facebook album for the SM “group”. Really, you have no excuse, since you’re all going to have your cell phones with you and even the lamest o’ phones now takes pictures, hokay?

So.

Twenty-two hours from now.

Redwood Bar and Grill.

316 W. 2nd Street, Los Anjalis, 90012.

Got that?

.

*Why chicken? Well, it can’t be beef, because lots of desis don’t eat red meat. Can’t be pork, because lots of desis think it’s

gross

…you thought I was going to say “haram”, didn’t you? HA. Suckers.

  1. hen I realized that even if the L.A. meetup was dazzling, glorious and fornication-laden…

    SM is fornication laden. damn

Cameraphones will be the death of us all, y’know.

  3. Everyone in that picture is so cute that I’m thinking we should have separate Aging Mutineers Meetups.

  4. alas… looks like I won’t be able to make the meetup after all…. you kids have fun without me and document the festivities in a followup post…

  5. I would have preferred the usage of “haraam” only so my muslim side would feel acknowledged in some way. 90012? That’s a far walk from UCLA.

  6. Would have liked to come, but way too far from UCLA without a car. 🙁

    Looks like fun too.

  7. We are on our way to the meetup. Wished we had known about the transportation issues that some of you have expressed; perhaps we could have arranged something; an Indian limo, which is nothing but my Dodge Dart. Will keep it in mind for the next time around.

I’m sorry. I used google “define: haram” and it returned over a dozen definitions which confirmed the usage I was looking for (so I didn’t check the spelling you used). I wasn’t going out of my way to not acknowledge your Muslim side, I assure you. 🙁 Are the dozen sources inaccurate then?

I see two “far from UCLA” comments, which is interesting. Was the meetup supposed to be held near it? I don’t remember any mention of this during the Feb 20th thread, when LA mutineers were trying to finalize a location.

Score another point for DC’s superiority. 😉 I make an executive decision and (with the exception of Amma’s) I try to keep it metro-accessible for those who are car-free (like me!). There’s never mention of proximity to AU or UMBC in the reminder threads. 😀 On a more somber note, this is making me not want to move back home to California, for exactly such constant logistical issues. Eeek. Hail the right coast, hail it, I say.

  10. 10 umbc u mean umcp? umbc is closer to bmore. cp is inside the dc beltway. ucla is on the westside of la in a nice area of LA known as westwood. westside of la is the nice part of la ie the manhattan of LA. light rail should be arriving to the westside by 2010 and will really permeate the westside including perhaps ucla by 2016 as well as the beach (santa monica). hopefully the subway will reach santa monica which is part of the westside but separate from LA by next decade.

oh and i was the one that suggested downtown. yeah dc is more of a traditional urban city which is awesome. that’s a complaint about this place but could be worse. could be phoenix or houston or hot (not) lanta! thumbs down for the weather and there are other complaints that i seem to come across a bit online as well.

i meant dc in the above quote

  12. I just had a mighty good time saying “soul shaking.” I didn’t even drink. I can create my own state of drunkenness.

  13. Taz–excellent job hosting the meetup last night. Was so fun! And, to patronize a superfly, desi-owned bar & grill, too, I’m tickled brown. A N N A A A A A, we miss you out here girl. I miss the east coast so much and hail it just as much as you; but, the west coast misses YOU more than you know! Enjoy today’s meetup, wish I could be there.

  14. Hey, it was great to finally meet the mighty Ennis, Taz & Chick Pea — and some DesiAngelenos I never knew were here. Sorry I had to bag out early and missed many of you, but I’m motivated for the next one!

    Regardo, z

  15. Yay!!!! That was so much fun! I’m stoked that I got to meet Anna in DC at subcontinental drift last week, and Ennis in LA at the meetup this week!

Right before I left my parents house to head to the meetup, my mom said, “dooshtumi korbeh nah!” as I walked out the door. This roughly translates into “Don’t be naughty!” Suffice to say, at a meetup like ours, plenty of naughtiness was to be had! The pix are great, and I’ll make sure the halal ones make it to the SM flickr page!

    Thanks!

  16. good times. good times. good times.

repeat the above 3 times. there you have it 🙂

  17. Great meet up and thanks to Taz and Enis for arranging it. Toni and I enjoyed meeting the gang. Don’t wait for year and a half for the next one. Let’s have one pretty soon. Let us know if we can help.

We got to have our meet ups better attended then that of DC!

How about meeting for a picnic at the Beach? Santa Monica Beach, may be? not too far from UCLA and accessible by public transportation?
