Had a *great* meetup last night in SF.
Two new records were set for IST –
- Early: Mutineer Dharti figured a “lazy Sunday” might mean that folks would show up as soon as 1:00
- Very Early: Mutineer Harbeer (wallet chain and all) thought the meetup was supposed to be on Saturday
Post meetup, the hearty select ventured to Kennedy’s Irish Pub & Curry House…
A few picts of some of the other folks gathered –
As dinner hour approached, ~9 intrepid mutineers were led by Kumar down Columbus street for a trรยจs San Francisco treat – Kennedy’s Pub & Curry House –
And what could possibly pair better with a Guinness or Black and Tan than Dosa / Idli / Uttapam?
More picts from Srini can be found here. Other Mutineers – post your picts or email ’em to me and I’ll toss ’em up.
man, wish i could have made it. i was supposed to be the bay…but schedule changes and all. will def. make the next one.
Awww, everyone looks so kyoot! I’m sorry I missed both meetups and will just have to pine for the next one ๐
And here I was trying to figure out which one of the beauties was Camille. But now I know you weren’t even there. What a fantastic set up: North and South cuisine and Irish beer all under one roof.
aww shucks wally i’m in SF this coming weekend .
I’m glad y’all had such a great time. And I’m sorry that the monotonous back-n-forth harangues on the last SF meeting post turned off one of the lurkers from coming (particularly since it seems none of us tiraders even showed up). Just goes to show that my paying heed to inane, knee-jerk comments can be counterproductive and, ahem, quite unattractive.
I’m also delighted to know that Kennedy’s has South Indian food! (My utthapam-deprived self’s been scouting the city for it endlessly.)
Ah, Greco. It almost brings a pang of nostalgia to my heart.
Almost.
DC still rocks. ๐
So sad that I missed the meetup ( a previously scheduled event whent off course and extended !!) .Will definitely make the next …
For the record, I was fashionably late when I came a day early…
It was nice to meet you all and I wish I could have stayed longer. I’ll keep my eye on the events page and hope to see people around.
Sorry to have missed the meetup again, but got tied up in East Bay :(. Voting for a meetup in the Penninsula next time ๐
Never eat a cheap burrito the night before a meetup. Still fuming that missed out….
One of the “deep lurkers” here…I had a great time at the meetup! It was nice to meet new people, and there was lots to talk about…the SF dating angst topic didn’t really come up. The only thing that was slightly dubious was that dosa at Kennedy’s…
That definitely looks like one skewed M/F ratio. We definitely don’t have female sex selection issues in the US brown community for sure.
Thanks for sharing the pictures. It looks like it was a lot of fun!
Gack! Lamb dosa? Shrimp Uttappam??!
I’ve not been to Kennedy’s – is the owner/cook of the Curry House desi?
the food looks great.
That’s what I was thinking…SM Intern, are we allowed to compliment any of the pictured people on their looks?
You would say that, wouldn’t you BB? ๐
having a dosa place named after an irishman seems suspect…
Aye to that, Puli. And I just took a look at the menu and just about hacked up my lunch when I saw that they have shrimp utthapam and dosa. I guess I’ll just head to Udupi in Berkeley next time I get the craving. ๐
That’s a good looking crowd in the pic!
confirms in my mind the status of san fran as the promised land.
Looks like it was a load of fun. I want to move back to CA.
hmm. guess some people just love giving heed.
hey .. i had a great time.. finally made it to a meet up.. can’t wait for another one ( on the east coast)
I’ve been to Kennedy’s before and I believe it is quite “normal” to have an indian curry + pub place in the UK. The owners (when i last went there, about a year ago) were north indian, and expats from UK.
I think its cool to have a shrimp uttapam and fries with curry. Why not?!
I must add that the festivities continued into the wee hours of the morning, until we were finally evicted by the owners of the little tart place. I cant wait long enough for another one!
Great meetup, guys.
Aw, shucks. Don’t thank me Vinod, you brought in all the ladies! I only showed up because I happen to have a thing for bow ties.
I was really looking forward to meeting you and seeing if you could, by accessing your impressive cybernetic database, correctly guess what my background is. I recently accused of “faking” by a DBD after a show and had to whip out my driver’s license to prove I wasn’t lying.
…which is exactly why I told you to eat only at Cafe Brazil. The worst thing I ever caught there was a wayward futbol and an irresistible urge to dance the bossa nova.
Yep, four of us somehow managed to fit in more serious conversation about caste, identity politics, and, of course, the latest Bollywood filums until 1am. I will definitely plead my ignorance about the latter. The last Indian movie I saw, an incoherent remake of Fight Club, was so godawful it gave me an itch on the roof my mouth only the barrel of a gun can scratch.
Also, apparently jainrockstar found my biological sex to be totally incongruous with my online persona: I guess I need to less (or more?) gender neutral in my prose.
And, before I forget, I fixed the broken link on the Bollywood/Muppet Babies mashup Vinod had been over-hyping (kidding!) and the mp3 can be downloaded here.
Fair enough. Next meetup at Cafe Brazil, plenty of seats! Just don’t give a thumbs-up to the food unless you want some hobo in a hoopty to pick you up en route to Humboldt County. Momma didn’t raise no hitchhiker.
So, is there a chance for a Buenos Aires Meetup anytime soon? I feel left out.
Had a great time meeting everyone & looking forward to keeping in touch with some great people. Coincidentally, my friends and I (visiting from the East Coast) ran into some mutineers randomly the next day — what a coincidence! It must be fate. ๐
Amina – It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends. I’ll keep you in mind next time I’m on the East Coast.
