Congrats, Aarti!

The Hill has more beautiful people for us, 40 more, in fact. The first one caught tipster DTK’s attention (thanks!).

Aarti Nayak, scheduler for Rep. Julia Carson (D-Ind.), doesn’t like skiing one bit, but that’s where she met her husband, Dave — on the slopes.
“He had a little blond girlfriend at the time,” she says with a wry smile. But when Nayak came into the picture, well, the blond was history. They have been married since September. She hopes to have kids.

Aarti Hill.PNG Considering today’s hot comment threads/topics, it seems appropriate to wonder what kind of wedding they had?

Was it meant to be? Nayak reads astrological signs, although she’s not a fervent believer.
During college at Virginia Tech, she and a friend wrote blurbs on astrological signs for the Eccentric, a student newspaper — they were called the “psychic sisters.”
At any rate, she doesn’t look one bit “psychic.”

What the H-E-double-toothpicks does a “psychic” look like? Enough with this paranormal profiling!

The first-generation American from an Indian family twirls her dark, curly hair, which her friends have compared to singer-model Toni Braxton’s locks.

Let me channel “chip-on-her-shoulder-Auntie“: “Vy they had to compare her to Toni Braxton? Minnie Driver also has such hair! Harrumph! Racist!” 😉

But makeup is not very important to her.
“I don’t care anymore,” she explains.

Even about lipgloss?? Say it isn’t so, my sweet sister…perhaps you just need some Hindu lips.

When it comes to beauty, Nayak is gently scornful of contests and pageants. She said one of their past interns participated in pageants and waved the Miss America wave.
“Who are these girls anyway?” she asks skeptically.

Oh, and as for her auspicious placement at the top of the list:

Other than the Top 10 , the rest of these beautiful people are not ranked in any specific order.

Suuuuuuuuuure they aren’t.

  1. chickenbreast/whitemeat/paneer -all the same…Anything that is bland, white and has no flavor. I’ve known some white guys date really hot desi women, boring as hell, bring nothing to the table in terms of value, they are just pre qualified because of their race..Ohh well thats the way of the world.

please don’t tell me that white automatically qualifies one as boring, and brown as interesting? if so, i (and others, i am sure) will attest to the opposite. and please do tell about the lack of brown women in your life – out of volition? or lack of numbers in the gegraphical area? or some other reason?

I live in the Village by the way, and most desis that frequent SoHo look too much like Indian Barbies and Kens.

not just in the village – NYC has an abnormal amount of such desis (and non-desis, too). but AJ, please look past the cover – i’ve been known to (occasionally) resemble them, as well!

  2. Then Parminder Nagra was the token pretty brown girl on those lists until you know who took over.

    Who??

  3. 50 · Runa on July 26, 2007 03:51 PM · Direct link i know people naming their children with names like Ghandi and Nehru in Andhra, which are surnames of our great leaders

Please , for the love of all that is desi, spell it G-A-N-D-H-I !

    Sorry for the Typographical mistake.

  4. Oh my goodness, that’s why I almost didn’t ask. 🙂 The trolls, they’ll be all over this like sharks on me-flavored chum. Eeeeep.

No, really, I’m having a blank kind of day and I was like…wait, who do they mean??

  5. Sendhil didn’t make it to People’s list<

Actually, he was named as one of the Top 100 Most Beautiful People, but for some reason the magazine only featured 80. Sadly, the Mohindelicious goodness was cut. sniff

  6. Oh my goodness, that’s why I almost didn’t ask. 🙂 The trolls, they’ll be all over this like sharks on me-flavored chum. Eeeeep. No, really, I’m having a blank kind of day and I was like…wait, who do they mean??

    Her royal ubiquitousness 🙂

  7. Sadly, the Mohindelicious goodness was cut. *sniff

Sarah, I hear you. If I had met a southie hunk half as hunkalicious as Sendhil ,my son would not be struggling with a half-punju/half -tambram identity today 🙂

  8. AK, read again! I said ‘some’ S followed by an O followed by a M followed by an E

    DOH!!!!!

  9. kannan – i can read just fine, thank you. despite the ‘some’ disclaimer, i was objecting to the generalization of even some (really, any) white people as bland. of course, there are white people who are bland, but obviosly, that can apply across any race or ethnicity.

  10. LOL I knew you were going in that direction, I should have clarified better..do your thing sir, to each his own!

  11. Did anyone notice that Number 10 on the list is also an Indian girl? Scroll to the bottom. Her name is Jamie Skipper.

Scroll to comment #11. Then you’ll see that three other anyones did.

  12. LOL I knew you were going in that direction, I should have clarified better..do your thing sir, to each his own!

no worries. from your other comments, i assumed there were no real prejudiced undertones there. fyi – that’s ma’am to you 🙂 or not; i hate being called ma’am.

  13. If I had met a southie hunk half as hunkalicious as Sendhil ,my son would not be struggling with a half-punju/half -tambram identity today 🙂

This reminds me of the time my cousin told her husband that even a million of him wouldn’t equal one Hrithik Roshan…the way she said it (it was part of a larger general conversation we all were having) was hilarious and it’s become like a family joke (her and her husband get along great by the way). You had to be there I guess…

Runa, help your son connect with half his roots by having him watch this awesome video for one of the most recent UK bhangra releases…it ain’t too pretty but it’s HARD CORE.

  14. Also I’ve never dated an Indian girl either, probably partly because so many of the hot ones like the two on this list are into white dudes.

  15. Aarti looks good, but not “hot”.

As usual, all the people on the list look “good” but not so “hot”.

And it’s true, you see exceptionally beautiful looking people in ordinary life who don’t get recognized because they are just ordinary wage earners trying to pay the bills.

Also I’ve never dated an Indian girl either, probably partly because so many of the hot ones like the two on this list are into white dudes.

I’ve noticed this too. What is up with that?

  16. Skipper is a native of Chicago but both parents are from India — something that had worried her when it came to the issue of marriage. The handsome man in church soon became her boyfriend, but he was American and Caucasian, far from what she thought her parents would ever accept. So again, she prayed: “Lord, if this is OK, give me a sign.” The sign came from the fact that her parents immediately took to her husband-to-be, Matt Skipper, and loved him from the start. And she knew. “It came from a lot of praying,” she says.
  17. Also I’ve never dated an Indian girl either, probably partly because so many of the hot ones like the two on this list are into white dudes.

Generalize much? What about the not-so-hot desi girls who date White guys? Maybe, just maybe, it’s just about two people falling for each other, ethnicity/religion/tax bracket be damned.

  18. Inter-racial couples of all backgrounds face disparenging remarks from each of their “own kind”. Like, “why do our black men go pass up fine sistahs for ugly white girls”, etc.

    It’s jealousy plain and simple.

Let people be with who they want and don’t hate just coz they don’t want to be with you.

  19. Sheetal or Iced Latte: please choose one handle and stick with it, it’s the courteous thing to do.

  20. Interesting to note that 5 out of the top ten lookers in that list are non-whites: 3 african-americans, a burmese and an indian.

That and the remark about the “little blonde” being replaced by the indian girl tells me that this list was concocted by a politically correct multi-racial group of writers.

  21. “Also I’ve never dated an Indian girl either, probably partly because so many of the hot ones like the two on this list are into white dudes.”

its interesting that you bring this up..We have parallels with the asian community. I’ve heard/seen that before. Hot lil Korean spinner would rather hook up with tall lanky white dude than someone from her race and its kind of common because I know a lot of my asian brothers who want to date from their race gripe and bitch about it:) Its almost like an invisible social hierarchy And the same goes for desi guys, I have a lot of friends who date white girls just because they think it brings them more social value ” Look at me FOB minority guy pulling from the majority race” However for me its never really been race, its whether I was attracted to the person or not and it so happens I have never gone brown 🙂

  22. Kannan:

I think part of the issue may be that Asian cultures are more traditional in terms of gender roles and it may be that the expectations that the Asian women feel they might have to live up to (or down to, depending on one’s viewpoint), may not factor in a relationship with an American or European white man.

  23. Did anyone notice that Number 10 on the list is also an Indian girl? Scroll to the bottom. Her name is Jamie Skipper.

She’s also a Republican which rules it out for me. Where are the desi Green (http://www.gp.org/) women?? 😉

  24. littleblonde girl, jeeee, what planet r u living on. r u a little hitler or sumthing. its not ur place to be dictating who goes out with whom, after all they say love is blind and has no prejudice. and whats with the sshe should find her own. get over urself lady, u coem across as racist aswell. im blond, 6ft3 and my wife is black. and i am not gonna be told by the likes of u who or who not to go out with, and yeah the most common combiantion is asian/oriental/japanese ladys with white guys.

  25. It is definitely a struggle finding own in country where you run into your own 5x whole life while foreign men 500 a day 365 days a year. But one point to desi men, we have seen kids of foreign wife and they are all married out to other races, so as a grandparent expect if you have kids for them a)to not be 100% desi (obvious sorry since you came from 2 desi Hindu parents not 1) b)to be every race culture religion and even skin color but what you started out with. I know many marry for love, but if you marry out of inferiority complex over your skin color (whether you’re aware of it) you will find out that in also all the situations we have seen 30 kids to various foreign women whether German Chinese British all the kids have Dad’s skin tone (adds to the confusion for the child- brown Hindu desi Dad white or other completely different heritage &upbringing Mom). You yourself would be a very different character today had you had let’s say a Hippie Catholic blue eyes mom as example (Origin of North Europeans in Youtube explains where blue eyes and yellow hair comes from). Just think it through completely – and if you don’t believe me about the kids having your skin tone you can look at famous Arun Nayar and his brother – they are born of German mom and Punjabi Dad, and they look 100% dark Punjabi.
