Postcards from the 2006 Artwallah Festival

I spent the entire day yesterday at the Artwallah Festival in Los Angeles. Since many of you couldn’t be out here for the festival I thought I would do my part to relate the experience through some pictures that I took. I bought a new camera recently so forgive me for going overboard with the colors. 🙂

Micro Pixie soothes the crowd with her ambient sound.

Adnan does his thing while Micro Pixie does hers.

The Vidya Quartet brings the jazz.

Emcee Chee Malabar takes the mic

Ananda Sen works the crowd.

Falu from New York had the crowd rockin’. Even the uncles had their hands in the air like they just didn’t care.

The Parijat Desai Dance Company looked strong.

Anar Ali reads from Baby Khaki’s Wings. This time she wasn’t stopped at the border.

The Mythili Prakash dancers were a crowd favorite.

  1. Falu was amazing- she has such a powerful voice, and fusion never sounded better than this. I just wish people had more love for independent hip hop though 😉 Good to see you there, Abhi.

  2. I had a blast yesterday at the show and at the afterparty– Any party where you come stumbling home at 5am is ridiculous. I had so much fun seeing so many bloggers and lurkers out there- cool to have y’all holler. I have to go take a nap now to recuperate from a fantastic weekend.

  3. Oh the title says it all. I just loved it, I put on my craziest outfit and just macked on as many girls I could. I was about 10 girls per hour. Just mack mack mack mack. I gonna keep going over and over again

  4. Siddarth Shanghvi and his publicist were too hot to handle. His reading enthralled us all, but to get a minute with him was impossible at the afterparty.

  5. Haha! Cool! Part of one of my Artwallah sketches survived! Thanks for posting it here Abhi! I did a bunch of pages..but the book got lost at some point during all the insanity. Hopefully some kind soul will happen upon it, see my contact info on the inside cover and call me! Small, black hardcover spiral bound :(.

  6. Hey Shruti it was nice to meet you. I wish we could have talked longer but my pager kept going off every five minutes and especially during the films. A Cashwallah’s job is never done.

MadGuru, I hope it turns up man, there was some great stuff in there.

  7. Thanks to your post I could see that Adnan’s sketch of MP looks great! Good luck with finding your sketchbook Madguru. I also like the photograph of Mythili prakash dancers – the blur enhances the action. Great job with the pictures here.
