Lights, Camera, Meetup!

Hear ye, hear ye, the time approaches for SM’s first meetup of 2006 in Ka-ney-da, the True North strong and free. The womb that is Toronto shall play host to an enchanting evening of food, drink, witty banter, and dance fights. Vive la revolution!

Date: Sunday, May 21, 2006
Time: 6:00 PM
Place: Little Tibet – 712 Queen West

We shall feast on momos and po jha. Tibetan food is veggie-friendly and delicious. If you have any hard and fast objections to place or time please shout them out in the comments. I am open to compromise if you threaten with absence 🙂

Pretty please to be making RSVP before I make reservations on Saturday, my email addy is currylingus[at]gmail[dot]com. I want to make sure we can all snag a seat without the wait wherever we end up going. By all I mean ALL. I know youÂ’re out thereÂ…give me a holler and come out to play! I was the onliest attendee at last yearÂ’s Toronto meetup, which was hosted by Manish. Shame shame! You have a lot to prove T-dizzy, like how many momos you can eat in one sitting, how long you can go without saying the “K” word, and how many pictures you can pose for while making “SM” gang signs. My kind (not to mention sexy) overlords have permitted me to use the house transporter to teleport myself back to home base for the night. Though the Bandar log have been murmuring about safety issues after spilling Jagermeister all over the transport base during last weekendÂ’s intense game of “I Never“, I am completely confident in Baboon ScottyÂ’s ability to use the thing. Just in case, please do not be afraid if you see me with an arm attached to my forehead that seems to be leaking Jager. And please, no drinking from the hand.

See you soon, MutineersÂ…

  1. Ah Shite! I won’t be in the Tdot until later this summer. Catch you at the next one!

… and I was so looking forward to a dance off against Dhaavak!!!

  2. Nice, Badmash vs Dhaavak summer ’06, I’ll bring my camera.

Nux2 – Aww poo 🙁 Enjoy your 2-4 away from the big smoke

  3. I’ve been hesitant about saying this to you cosmopolitan Mutineers on the coasts out there, but has there ever been, can there ever be, um gulp, a midwestern meet-up?? Chicago or Minneapolis for those who can’t bear to step outside a big city?

  4. I second the idea of a Midwest Meetup! …..yeah!why not Minneapolis!!

  5. There’s been alot of mutineers from Cah-nay-dah lately:

    anupa dharma queen milli

and more unidentified canucks I’m sure.

c’mon now – Toronto’s not that far from Montreal – take a long drive! I’m finding it hard to believe that there could be so few mutineers when the desi pop in TO should provide for many. Although I cannot be there, I wish you all the best in recruiting.

  6. Alybaba – you heard the lady, now take that bus/drive/train like a good baba, you shan’t be disappointed 🙂

Dharma Queen is also in Montreal, no?

Ang, when are you coming down to TO?

  7. For future reference:

    Bandar lok = monkey realm

    Bandar log = monkey people

  8. Neha, I am planning on coming down to both Montreal and TO in humid-ass mid-August. Funny thing was my original plan was this long weekend, but family shit changed everything. Now one of my bestest friends from TO is coming to visit me this weekend anyways (yay!).

But, if you invite your hawttie ex, I’ll screw over my girlfriend and hop onto the next plane! 😉 tee hee.

  9. Thenk yoo, Naaniji, error has been fixed. I am Gujarati, my spoken Hindi is more like Gindi 🙂

Ang, we were so close! Can’t wait till August. I’ve been telling Pawan to get his ass down here so I can auction him off for love, respect, and friendship but he isn’t listening. Maybe one day we will be able to watch him take his shirt off on the big screen.

Badmash, you coming down in August as well?

  10. Distance: 488 mi (about 9 hours 42 mins)

just last week i decided to drive less and save the the planet

i am doing my part……are you???

  11. Bandar log = monkey people

    axually
    Bandar log = monkey poop
and Bandar lok = bandar people… viz. Loktantra, lokraj = hindi for democracy
lokiraj on the other hand = power wielded by dint of handling a large fleshy gourd like vegetable as a weapon
ironically gandhiji was very fond of loki.
    but gandhiji was gujarati.
    neha is gujarati
so neha has lokiraj and she will bean you if you do not show up at her little get together. me, duttyboi and lingus alone in tibet – that’s a bad movie i tell you.

  12. Gandhi bapu is my homeboy.

K, I’m leaving it as bandar log because according to my bandar friend here in hindi conversation they say log with the ‘guh’ sound, isn’t it? As in sub log, ye log, woh log. In Guju it becomes loko. Muey loco. We can discuss this over momos.

The point is, I will bean you if you don’t come to the meetup.

  13. I’ve been telling Pawan to get his ass down here so I can auction him off for love, respect, and friendship but he isn’t listening. Maybe one day we will be able to watch him take his shirt off on the big screen.

Is this the same Pawan of.. what was it… Man Hunt International? (or something of the sort?) Hee hee, I remember us bonding over and basking in his shirtless glory a year or so ago (whilst silmultaneously laughing my ass off at the hair-gelified-cheesiness of some of the other contestants)!

just last week i decided to drive less and save the the planet

The train is always fun if you ignore the rude Via rail employees – aaah monopolies – worst service ever!!

Dhavaak: Just got Fine Balance from the library – thank you for the recommendation – enjoying it so far! See? This is what interacting with other sepia-ites is all about – getting the inside scoop from other young, intelligent desis, and maybe making a friend or two. Don’t miss the TO meetup: Pawan or no Pawan!

  14. You have a point Dhaavak, but then the sentence would have to read “the bandar lok has been murmuring . . . .” (not have been murmuring) since lok is singular and log is plural.

  15. Ah Shite! I won’t be in the Tdot until later this summer. Catch you at the next one!

likewise, badmash – should we do an IST meetup in August? JAS

  16. Canadians love to complain about Viarail, Air Canada, &c. This makes me suspect they’ve never ridden with the surly folk of Amtrak, or enjoyed a lambasting at the tender hands of a Delta “stewardess.”

    Feh. Count your blessings.

  17. Razib is just hatin because there’s no momentum for a pacific NW meet-up 😉

  18. lok is singular and log is plural.

oh no… log is singular… here let me illustrate. The bandar picked up his log and threw it at razib who picked it up and threw it right back.

  19. Dhavaak:Just got Fine Balance from the library – thank you for the recommendation

wait a minute… i thought i recommended against it. young people these days [grumble]. nobody listens to me anymore. no respect for the buzoorg. [grumble] fine. do what you want. that pawan shaves his chest. chi… hai hai – who ever heard of that. but no, dont listen to me.

  20. I’m so there bandar log. Thanks so much for the invitation chicka. And drinking from the hand is so sexy. The perfect gilass. Can we also do sher aur shaiyari? I would suggest boliyan… but this UP girl’s Punjabi is weak!

  21. Is this the same Pawan of.. what was it… Man Hunt International?

That’s our man, Ang! Didn’t take long for that year to go by, sheesh, it’s about time we met 🙂

Anandos, I will be ready and waiting for the dance fight to end all dance fights in August. You get to fight whoever wins Dhaavak vs. Badmash. Get you jazz hands out!

Razib, bite your tongue and have a little mercy, I’ve been wearing long underwear since December!

Mango Lassi, YEAH! Tujhe lage meri dua sharaab la sharaab la. Huzoor, we shall see you on Sunday. [I don’t know the feminine of ‘huzoor’]

  22. My jazz hands aren’t just out, they’re manicured and polished, and my legwarmers are carefully pushed down to my ankles. . . I will be the champion, in my bi-coloured shoelaces.

    En garde!

    (August it is.)

  23. Neha,

I don’t know the feminine of ‘huzoor’

    It’s “Begum”, I think…..

  24. Hello Neha and friends, I have been reading and enjoying this forum for a while. This seems a good opportunity to meet some of you famous people in person and I hope you will not mind me showing up at you get together. Please add me to your list. It is very good to see a strong showing for Toronto. VXM

  25. VXM – What is all this rubbhish about “minding”? We are all friends here 🙂 And guess what? Out of everyone coming I have met a grand total of zero in person, so no worries. We are also all strangers here 🙂 I’ll put you down for a seat, want to send me an email just so I can have your address in case I have to send out a mass email with any last minute details? currylingus[at]gmail[dot]com. See you Sunday!

    Jai, thanks huzoor, makes sense.

  26. me, duttyboi and lingus alone in tibet – that’s a bad movie i tell you.

Bad Movie? Anything starring me would be mind blowing and subject to rave reviews 😉

Well, looks like the T.O. meeting is going from bad movie to a meeting of the Brown Justice League. Just check the names, Dutty Brown Boi, Diaspora Girl (a friend who will also join us), the Lingus, Mango Lassi, VXM, Dhavaak (not sure what that means but it does have superhero ring to it).

Anyways, look forward to meeting you all, and other superheroes that should be in attendance.

  27. Brown Justice League!!!! I LOVE it! Where’s the Sepia Mutiny shirt with the superhero logo on it???? 🙂

Neha- long underwear? What’s that? [Sarcasm, in that way that us Los Angelenos love to rub it in… ]
