p>Fortunately, the star attraction will be there with them:

The fountain will be featured in the tour… the costumes are from the Broadway production. [Link]

Roadshows are like movies’ DVD and overseas rights. Investors are giving their flagstaffs a final shake to squeeze out the remaining drops of their investments. The tour takes on only new leads but also a new director:

Director Baayork Lee

Baayork Lee, whose many Broadway performance credits include the original cast of A Chorus Line, will direct the international tour of Bombay Dreams… [Link]

[Lee] began taking dancing lessons at the age of three, when she was growing up in Chinatown, and in 1951… she was chosen, along with several other Chinese children, to appear in the original production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I… Seven years later, she appeared in R. & H.’s Flower Drum Song…

When she was in her twenties, Lee, whose first name, she said, means “precious jewel,” originated the role of Connie in A Chorus Line. “I was Connie Wong,” Lee said. “She’s a short Asian–she’s four foot ten. It’s the story of my life–I wanted to be a ballerina. I wanted to be Maria Tallchief, and I studied at the School of American Ballet for so many years.” Lee played Connie for three years, and then went on to direct all the foreign Chorus Line companies. It’ll be interesting to see how it does in the South and Midwest. I’ve argued before that although the show has a gloss of exotica, the story is really a straightforward, ’50s-style musical. It should do well outside the Snarktic Circle of theater critics in Manhattan.

  1. anyone know if the script was improved modified for the touring company? Wish them all the best of luck, especially in Alabama ;)

  2. Sachin BhattÂ… of St. Louis, MO received his B.S. in Vocal Performance with an outside field in Theatre from Indiana UniversityÂ…

Who knew there were so many browns wandering the theater dept at my alma mater? (Sunil lived in my very small dorm at the same time I did and was friends with 2 friends of mine — but apparently he had long hair and a beard so I must have assumed he was a dirty hippie and never talked to him) ;)

dd- i love you, my mixed sista, but why are you hating on alabama?

  4. hmmm… this seems a change for the hummingbird … i remember rex harringtons privates in a ballet… saw chekov’s coat (or maybe that was bluma appel )… a symphony or two… but this… this is a bit of an odd venue.
should i go? hhmmm… what do you think manish… ? i wont be caught dead near mamma mia or lion king or cats… but then again … i think it will be like raj kapur going down home with the ghatis in shree 420 – to borrow from another thread. maybe…

no surprise there. bunch of iu loosier hippies. go boilers. ;-)

  6. siddhartha, I was just surprised that there was an Alabama tour-stop. Of all the “target” brown-towns, I was surprised to see Huntsville up there. I figured they’d do 3 weeks in Sunnyside, CA; a month in Edison County; 3 weeks in Decatur/Gwinnett, 3 weeks in NoVA, a stint in Detroit and Toronto each, and a street show in Jackson Heights ;)

  7. Are you kidding? Alabama actually has a sizable desi population – at least if the number of Hindu temples is any proxy. I dunno why – I suspect that Nasa might have something to do with it.

are you suggesting they could use some prayer and tips from hanumaan?

  9. mi cyaan comment. and Manish knows EXACTLY why. frikkin buybacks.

HOWEVER… st louis (hamhara alma mater) is definitely on the map. go blueberry hill and vintage vinyl! chicago is, i daresay, a solid ‘maybe.’

come to see the show. I’ll be the one in hunstville with the flamethrower.

  10. Please note the ensemble character Stephanie’s name is actually Stephanie Crain Klemons..thanks!

  11. heyy grls! u no this sachin bhatt u peeps hittin on? he my uncle so baq off chicas! hey uncle i got ur back!!

  12. sorry meghna (but i live too far away for you to be worried…)

but that is one pic that makes the word ‘uncle’ a lot less uncle-ish that it has previously been…

in a way that purely reflects on talent and acting ability of course. but yes. sorry chica.
