Shiva and Durga in tag team smack down

My dad forwarded me the picture below. It is of a mural that serves as the centerpiece at the “Dharma Sansad,” a two day meeting at a Swaminarayan Temple at Vadtaal town near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It is a meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the ultra-conservative Hindu Nationalist group. Divine justice??

Durga takes care of Musharaaf and Shiva takes care of Osama Bin Laden

  1. this picture came in both “the hindu” and “asian age”, the two papers i subscribe to in delhi — while the hindu simply ran the picture and reported the details of the VHP meeting, asian age offered their view of the picture, the tagline read “this is what politics in gujarat look like”. gutsy move, AA.

  2. Nope. “Yo Dad” and the mom have been back in the U.S. for a couple weeks now. Besides, “Yo Dad” is definitely not religious enough to be associated with nut-jobs. 🙂

  3. If VHP is “ultra-right Hindu Nationalist” then who is the “right group”? who is the “nationalist” group? and who is the “hindu” group? VHP is the Hindu group and right group and nationalist group. There is no other group on right besides VHP, so it would be a better idea to remove our ignorant blinders and refer to VHP correctly as a Hindu Group rather than calling it names like “ultra-right” etc.

I’d rather not. Political groups represent the interests of the people who want their values in power. The VHP stands for the opinions of ultra-right and conservative Hindus, not the liberal or moderate Hindus or non-nationalist Hindus, and should be labelled as such.
