Lady in Red

I am in India right now, “helping” my baby sister with her preparations for her impending nuptuals. This is what a bridal show looks like, Indian style :

Does this lehnga make my hips look large?

[Excuse the photoblogging – it’s hard to get the peace and quiet necessary to string two words together around here and the DSL is unreliable to boot.]

UPDATE: The photo above was taken at Frontier (sic) Bazar in Karol Bagh, Delhi. My sister bought none of the lehngas above, they were being shown to somebody else (and most Sikh weddings are done in Salvaar Kameez suits, which is what she bought). She did, however, buy her suit material at Frontier, which she heartily endorses, after having done the tour of most of the South-Ex boutiques (selection is small, and unless you want what is in fashion at that moment you’re out of luck).

  1. Frontier! That’s where my mother-in-law did all my shopping. I’ll have to ask her about these sexy male models and if she encountered any.

    Have a blast ennis =)

  2. In Southern India–Bangalore, Hyderabad, etc.– most of the sari models I’ve encountered shopping with the wifey are females. If one gets lucky she might even be hot. I wonder what’s up with Delhi.

  3. Sorry for the omnibus response. I’m sneaking in just a few minutes on the net.

    I had about 90 guests

SK – I think I have close to 90 first-tier (for India) relatives on my mother’s side of the family alone 🙂

so long as they don’t involve YOUR family in the planning hungama

DD – and when they do …

I like the backyard barbeque with close friends and family type affair.

Jane – harder for the religious part of the ceremony, and it’s winter here right now (too cold for any outdoor wedding, my uncles who got married in a tent had to do so during the right time of year). Also, we don’t know anybody with a yard large enough to hold 300 in Delhi.

And as Mr. DesiDancer said of the wedding, “see, now EVERYBODY knows we’re having sex.”

DD – Besharam! You had sex before the wedding? You had sex after the wedding? You’re setting a bad example here for unmarrieds and unrealistic expectations for marrieds all in the same sentence!

    tsk tsk tsk …

  4. nice photos..but where is cicatrix?

Aw, thanks for remembering me Suhail!

Funnily enough, I was in India… trying to shop on a tight budget and failing miserably 😉

  5. Wow! I spent 3 nights in Karol Bagh last week… some great shopping, and close to the new Metro

  6. Hi, my wedding’s coming up in a few months in Ludhiana and I have been doing some shopping in Delhi. I was wondering if any one could recommend a few good places to buy some menswear…sherwani’s and the like for my brother. Thanks!
