Liveblogging ER’s “I Do”

wed.jpg Yes, yes I am aware that a good portion of our readers aren’t lucky enough to live on the right coast but I can’t resist liveblogging this huuuuugely important event— my girl crush is goin’ to the chapel and she’s, gonnnnnna get marrrrrried. Besides, the original post on Neela’s nuptials has triggered a fascinating discussion about regional bridal traditions in South Asia; that’s a lovely development, and this way we can feel free to focus on the actual ER ep, here.

So this is what I’m going to do for everyone in a different time zone who isn’t watching with me right now: blogging starts after the jump. You don’t want to know what happens during tonight’s ER? Don’t click that handy-dandy “Continued” box OR the comments OR the permalink for this entry. Everyone wins.

SPOILER ALERT- after the jump. The episode commences with our happy couple in bed, and then in the shower? Hot damn! Jump right in, why don’t we?

They’re skirting the M-word. Cute.

And…now they’re PDA’ing on public transportation. Geez, wait a few hours, you’ll be taking our precious little lotus flower’s innocence soon enough. 😉

I love how Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney) tries to talk the blushing bride-to-be out of it– did I mishear, or at the end of her “does he drip on the toilet seat” litany, did she ask if Neela’s intended likes jam on his grilled cheese? Blech. I’m about to retaste dinner.

The brown doc is strictly business; while operating with her on a patient, nurses and a surgeon start kibitzing about reception venues and whether she’s registered– Neela’s all, “Let’s get medical, damnit!” oooh, she looks hot when she’s disapproving of silliness and frowning with consternation.

So when I quoted that sweet Dixie Cups tune from the ’50s in my opening para, I had no idea I was psychic– they really MIGHT be gettin’ hitched in the hospital chapel.

As Pratt teases Gallant about his lack of bachelor party (“no time to plan!”) I find myself wondering, “what’s the rush?” Gawd, I’m all Auntie-ing out, aren’t I?

Oh my…here it comes…the proposal through glass!!! In FRONT of everyone!

I’m such a CHUMP! I’m totally tearing up. Don’t lie, bitches. You so are too.

The engaged doctors are running out to get a certificate and rings…I am neurotic, I keep wondering if they’re also going to run to Devon Ave for her ‘fit. Sahil, perhaps?

ASIDE: I wanted to slap the organic-stick up-her-ass Mother as soon as she snottily insinuated that an X-ray was evil, after Lockhart requested one. Wahhh, radiation. Well, it’s 30 mins later and now I want to throttle her. Hey Sepia interns and residents, do people this annoying, selfish and, oh, CRAZY actually come in the ER? I’m fantasizing about Protective Services rescuing her poor children while she’s hauled off for neglect. GAH. >:(

OMG…here it is…the entrance…they’re gasping and I can see why…suddenly that “way you look tonight” song makes even more sense.

Aww, a hummed “here comes the bride” is sweeter than I ever expected it could be. That cake looks kinda sad, though.

Limbo to Barry Manilow at the reception? Eh, why not.

Note to Brimful: My future husband looks HAWT.

I wonder if she put the sari on herself. See? I think of the most useless things. Woops, is her sari slipping? It is! I saw covered boobage! Our girl is in a hurry to get her new spouse home– I think my joke about “precious little lotus” was dead on. 😉

Note to Brimful: He’s cheating on us. Sigh.

Only Neela could make a puffy down jacket look THAT good with a sari. She’s so lovely.

Wot? The preview to next week’s ER tantalizingly hints at ANOTHER alliance? Auntie is pleased. I just want to see you all settled, is that so wrong?

  1. I agree, it was sweet and she looked lovely in the white sari and the puffy black coat, BUT I can’t help but to be wondering already how they’re going to play this storyline out.

I mean, a big part of ER is all the hot 20-ish, 30-ish and even a few 40-ish folks getting it on with each other, and with the hubby back in service, that leave Neela spoken for but without any action going on onscreen.

And was I imagining it, or did she actually seem tempted by John Stamos last week?

And this week, didn’t she say something about the hubby looking for a posting in the US? If so, I would guess that means the couple will do the long-distance thing, OR….. Parminder Nagra will leave the show to move on to bigger and better things as her character relocates to whatever base.

All that speculation aside, I gotta say it’s good to see a strong young desi woman doing her own thing and following her heart, without all the I-can’t-disappoint-my-parents natak we usually see played out onscreen. (I’ve got this on my mind after having lunch this week with a heartbroken colleague – a really bright, beautiful woman from the Middle East – who’s on her way to an unwanted divorce from her Sri Lankan husband of over 10 years, whose sasu (surprise surprise) never approved of the marriage and has actually called her to say “Don’t go back to my son; he’s happier now than he’s been in a decade.”)

Actually, it was refreshing to see Neela say “No, mine will never get over it”, very straightforward, but she still proceeded on.

  2. Feh. I liked the real life version (with same uniform and costume) sans the family drama in the real life version in my family almost 10 years ago…. 😉

  3. Abby and Luka; hot. Neela and Gallant; meh. not so much. Jerry as “Father Superior”; creepy.

Neela and Gallant’s usual ‘zing’ was lacking. It started off quite well (he was really out of breath, get the man a glass of water!), but the actual wedding scenes were a bit tepid and unromantic. No post wedding kissing, no arm around the shoulder on the subway. I should just enjoy the Neela-Gallan lonvin’ while it lasts; I know this storyline is not going to go to a good place. Parminder looked lovely through out though, especially, as A N N A and Olinda mentioned, whilst working the difficult parka and sari combo.

The guests humming the bridal march was very cute, the Abby/Luka vibes were hot, and count me amongst the countless women who squealed like a schoolgirl at the sight of Luka singing “Copacabana”

    yes.

did she actually seem tempted by John Stamos last week?

Damn uncle Jesse and his Irresistible romantic prowess!

  5. Oh yes, Luka and Abby. Hubba hubba.

It would be nice if these two tormented souls could get it right this time. I can see the storyline: they get married, and have a kid, and Luka gets to be made whole again and Abby gets to see that she can be “normal” and have a kid whose childhood is nothing like her and her brother’s was.

Totally agree about the lack of steam with Neela and the hubby. The episode where they first did the deed, when she was in a slinky black dress and they were supposed to be heading out on a date, was beautifully steamy, especially the way the light hit their skin(s).

yes. now that was hot. Neela and her ‘deep dish pizza outfit’.

  7. Alright shoot me but it really bothered me that they put Neela (super cute/hot) in a blouse that didn’t fit her well!! Grrrrr such a rare opportunity to see a sari in mainstream and then to not have it done right really bugged the crap out of me. OK maybe not the crap out of me. And was it me or did it all just seem really dry, I wish it had more warmth, emotions, Oh I love you baby ooomph to it. I wanted to be bawling and I didn’t.

  8. I loved it when she complained about walking in a sari. I like hearing that on primetime and going, yeah, no shit. Its remarkable how deprived I am (we are) of seing elements of my ethno-cul referents reflected back at me on the telly, that I am moved by something as trivial as that. Drunk Weaver was fun, as was singing Kovach.

  9. Damn uncle Jesse and his Irresistible romantic prowess!

Is it bad that I have lusty thoughts about him while still referring to him as Uncle Jesse?

  10. Note to Brimful: HeÂ’s cheating on us. Sigh.

Sweet Sassy Molassy, was he ever! I still can’t be mad at him though.

I couldn’t believe this episode of ER was actually tolerable, so thanks A N N A, for the gentle nudge to watch!

  11. Janeofalltrades, maybe I’m giving the ER folks too much credit, but maybe they did it that way (ill-fitting blouse, unraveling sari) to point to the fact that she’s in Vestern gear most of the time, like many modern desi girls outside of India, and also, owing to her busy career, doesn’t spend gobs of time fussing over clothes and her appearance?

Ah ha…. 🙂 she’s such a cutie. I didn’t mind and she just looked radiant in that getup. I wish they did more on it. But the ending with Abby and Kovach….whoo hooo.

  13. y’all need to lust after desi men bc then we feel special. and right now, there’s been no pumping up of desi men’s ego. and that hurts.

    (this is satire)

  14. Not only was that wedding too underplayed, but the subway ride seemed like a rip-off of the graudate. I see either his being killed in Iraq or an annulment in the near future (that is, May sweeps).

Hee! And how do we feel when y’all lust after non-desi women? 🙂

Cool, I didn’t see the ep, so I’m glad to hear she said that. I didn’t know if it was just going to play as, “oh, how nice, we’re going to put the brown and black together and of course that makes sense.” Sounds like it was realistic, and yeah, it’s great they didn’t center things around “what am I going to tell my parents…” at the same time.
