All holidays are filled with schlock. Even the most lactose intolerant amongst us becomes cheesy over the holidays; even the most militant vegetarian schmaltzy. Recognizing this shouldn’t stop us from having fun at the expense of the purveyors of the least pulchritudinous presents and the buyers of the least beautiful booty.

okay it’s not tacky but sanjay patel [the illustrator of http://www.gheehappy.com] sent everyone who bought his book an email with an attachment of an illustration that was going to be published in the NYTimes. ultimately it wasn’t published but it’s adorable.

I think they just ran out of things for the last letter ‘i’ to be doing; poor thing is just jumping up and down.

with Halloween and Diwali coinciding last year, and near-missing each other this year, I suppose it might have been cheez-worthy if some auntie dressed their kid up as a diya or a rangoli…
