Izzard vents his gizzard

Cross-dressing British comic Eddie Izzard performs a very funny Monty Python-ish bit about how Britain conquered India (thanks, ms). In his formulation, a flag is like letterhead. Any self-respecting, Brazil-ian bureaucracy must have one.

That’s how you build an empire: we stole countries with the cunning use of flags. You just sail around the world and stick a flag in: ‘I claim India for Britain.’

And they go, ‘You can’t claim us, we live here. 500 million of us!’

‘Do you have a flag?’

  1. eddie izzard absolutely rocks. the clip is from his show “Dressed to Kill” — rent or buy the whole video if you like the clip. he’s both sexy :> and brilliant, and he infuses a lot of history and politics into his comedy shows.

  2. Was it just me, or was the main monkey in “Madagascar” totally like Izzard and his whole ape sign-language routine?

  3. That’s one funny transvestite.

I would definitely put him in my top three of the funniest transvestites out there today – no doubt about it.

  4. Eddie Izzard is Python-ish by default. He is, in fact, the Pythons’ favourite contemporary comedian, and was an honourary Python for two of their recent shows.

He rocks, and I like him all the more because he wears a skirt. I think his funniest show was ‘Circle’. ‘Sexie’, the most recent, wasn’t as good.

  5. I too think that Izzard’s best show was Dressed to Kill. Though most of his other stuff is bloody hilarious too. BBC Radio online often has hour long clips of his shows on their RealPlayer streams.

Its a shame he hasnt been used more/better in films though. The movies he cameos in seem to bomb – with the exception of Velvet Goldmine and Ocean’s Twelve.

  6. yeah I got a good laugh and a history lesson at the same time! Izzard is clever and he goes on intellectual tangents that give my brain a work out to keep up!
