The second line in the chorus goes “Mit jaye gham” instead of “mit jaye hum”. With the change, the line would be best translated as “wipe out that pain”.
Dang, it’s my ‘Louie Louie.’ All these years I thought Ashaji was being a nihilist– it’s hard to hear the soft ‘gh’ in the original recording. Thanks.
If you want to be really picky, it’s “Duniya ne hum ko diya kya?”.

I’m all for being accurate. You know what’s embarrassing? I transcribed the lyrics off a Web site, reading it in the original Hindi. What I conclude from this: that lyrics enthusiast was deaf.

The title of this CD reminds me too much of that Black Eyed Peas song that samples some other old Hindi songs — “Don’t Mess With My Heart.”
As a result, when I listen to the song on the Kronos Quartet website I keep expecting to hear someone start rapping…

It is nice to have two new releases from the legend Asha Bhosle. One Asha -Ghazals of Ghazal Maestros. Atleast in this one we get to hear her interpretations and that too in her Golden silken voice. However the two preview tracks of her other offering , this one with Kronos ,I do not find anything uniquely different. Haven’t we already had her many versions of RD Burman songs released by various record companies ? Asha needs to use her god gifted vocals to create new songs , new compositions. Years ago her album of Ghazals with Ghulam Ali was a masterpiece of a recording that I find it appealing even today and then there was a brand new Kabhi To Nazar Milao with Adnan Sami. Don’t you think that we need something new from this very best , a talent that sometimes outshines even the nightingale , her sister Lata Mangeshkar ?

for a non-indian . the translation sounds damned realistic..do gv me ideas on gr8 hindi songs that can make a good listen during summer 🙂
To Nazir: I have always been of the stance that art is either for the audience or for the artist. In the case of Kronos Quartet, hey, it’s simple: they probably can’t stop giggling because they GET TO WORK WITH SUCH A LEGEND 🙂 So we don’t hear anything that innovative (I felt that way about other KQ recordings–it’s like they’re too good!) but at least they are having fun.
