Aish ain’t gettin’ Hitched

Vaporwarya Rai is endlessly rumored to be in talks for this movie or that. Bond girl, anyone?

But one particular missed opportunity is quite funny: the director of the Will Smith romantic comedy Hitch says Rai was to play the college girlfriend. And since Smith produced the film, he probably had a hand in it. Said the director:

I want to see Aishwarya Rai because she was almost in my film… There was a time when she was going to play the college girlfriend, which was originally a much bigger part. I think we were all keen on she doing it. But we had a demanding schedule which she couldn’t work out. That was the hitch on Hitch.

That’s the girlfriend with whom a Steve Urkel-like, ’80s version of Will Smith makes all his early romantic blunders, like being too clingy too early and blurting ‘I love you.’ He later finds her making out with another guy in a parked car. ‘What did I do wrong?’ he repeats pathetically, slumping against the glass. The Other Guy takes pity on him: ‘You’re doin’ it right now!’

Wussy Will would’ve been an improvement over Two-Fisted Khan.

  1. I don’t know about Aish and Hollywood really. Part of me feels like its good for more indians to be in that scene (more exposure, especially as she’s been introduced as The World’s Most Beautiful Woman ™ ).

Apple saw her at his old studio once, and said she was nice. But seeing her on Letterman, I thought she came off as too defensive and over all just got a wierd vibe from her interview. Not to mention all the cute stuff that goes on to satisfy Indian audiences (ala no kiss and tell) not sure if she will be able to get away with that here. Should be interesting tho, and of course more indians everywhere is better for us all.

  2. Aishwarya would have to perform the inadverdent kiss (Rushdie, na?) because from what I remember, there was kissing betwixt bespecked Will and that girlfriend. It’d be quite funny if she and her lover in the car were sharing something less sultry…chai anyone? perhaps feeding each other vindaloo? Most of these rumors of her working in hollywood just boost her career. My favorite Aish sighting was on a cosmetics commercial on VH1. Her voice was dubbed. How wonderful to find imported beauty with an american glossing.

  3. Manpriya (what a beautiful name…)

Actually, that Loreal commercial you speak of is now on prime time (saw it on NBC one night while watching something or the other) and it’s her voice now. I heard the dubbed version as well… but that was some months ago.

  4. speaking of Aishwarya, she’s going to be on the Oprah show on Monday..just a heads up to y’all!
