Law & Order gets sued for use of bald head

Anyone who has seen the fine American television show Law & Order, or any of it’s many spin-offs, knows that the show is loved for its gritty reality from the streets to the jury box. The show even starts by claiming that it’s stories are ripped from the headlines. Well apparently one story hit too close to home for attorney Ravi Batra. From IrelandOnline:

Producers of TV series Law & Order were sued for $15m (€11.5m) on Friday, by an angry attorney who accuses them of portraying him as a villainous lawyer.

Ravi Batra complains an episode titled ‘Floater’ deliberately inflicted emotional, monetary and professional injury on him by featuring an Indian-American, Brooklyn-based lawyer named Ravi Patel who has similarities to Batra – including a bald head and a beard.

And the character Batra claims is based on himself is found guilty of fixing matrimonial cases, corruptly selling consultancies and appointments to judgeships.

The lawsuit says people who know Batra “were disturbed and distressed by the story line of criminal conduct attributed to plaintiff (Batra) by the defendants”.

I think Ravi is more disturbed by the fact that people notice that he has a bald head.

  1. Here’s a photo of the desi actor who portrayed ‘Ravi Patel,’ Erick Avari. You’ll recognize his face, he’s been a character actor in Planet of the Apes, Daredevil, The Mummy, ID4, Stargate, The X Files, Enterprise, The West Wing… He’s got one of those faces.

  2. I think that he is much better looking than Ravi Batra. Also, we all know that Ravi Batra is guilty. Haven’t you seen the headlines? Clarence Norman etc. Brooklyn.. I also know that Ravi is proud to be in the headlines, but for the wrong reasons.

P.S. No one likes a bald head. No one…

  3. I thought that the primary principle of the legal system is “innocent until proven guilty”(?). It seems as though people have made up their mind regarding Mr. Batra’s guilt before all the facts have come to light. I am a huge fan of Law and Order, but in my opinion that episode went too far. It is exactly this kind of irresponsible conduct that exacerbates the problem of contaminated jury pools (if the matter ever went to trial), precluding the ability of defendants to receive fair trials. People will believe anything, if it’s on the idiot box. I know Mr. Batra personally and have found him to be a man of integrity as well as an honest and dedicated advocate.

  4. If you think that Ravi is Innocent, then think again chump! Ravi is as guilty as his head is bald. Trust me, I know. He is a rather cocky person who is full of “Hubris”.. God help him!

  5. to Ravi Patel: how do you know so much about Ravi Batra? everytime i read something from someone who claims to know him, he/she usually says that he’s been wrongly accused.

  6. Well, it was inevitable. Law and Order is finally guilty of lible. Eh, I can see what they mean… it’s like that one episode of The Simpsons where Homer finds a character who acts like a total idiot on TV who has his name and he’s automatically treated just like the character. But, on the plus side, this may be a great thing for the show. Maybe now they’ll stop looking to the newspaper for a show and start actually writing new material. Eh, not sure if this article’s still reliable though. It’s been a while since I saw the show. No offence to the fans… but when they started to take newspaper stories instead of creating their own it started to go down hill for me. Later

  7. It’s a slam dunk again for Ravi Batra. Sam…you ask me how I know him, well I just do. Lets just say that I have an inside track on the “Legal Terrorist”..Okay.. so again, in the headlines. The only people that are in the headlines so aften are politicians, movie stars, and CROOKS!

  8. Hahaha.

“Nobody likes a bald head, no one”

You mean YOU dont like a bald head, YOU. Ive got that straight right considering well, your not everybody.

I find it interesting that a guy who claims to have insider knowledge on the “legal terrorists” is that predudiced and biggotted as to make such a claim as that.

  9. Yes Brian…You are right.

I should say that “most people” don’t like a bald head. Biggoted..NO.

    Ravi Batra.. I know..

  10. Batra is a crook, he’s robbing Riskin and loves it, I don’t care the truth will come out. Beware of Bald Men BEARING GIFTS.

  11. first of all.. a lot of people are forgetting that this episode of law and order was made shortly after Ravi Batra was wrongfully portayed by the new york times (on the front page with a picture!). “generic” is not applicable because there arent enough of indian lawyers with the name ravi, who was made to be so high profile at the time. i saw it as a direct correlation, as did many others i know.. by the way that story in the times described a fabricated story in which a judge came to the batra residence, “told ravi off, and left.” suree.. thats exactly why there are pictures of that person laughing and cutting a cake in their kitchen.. btw, there were corrections made about that story in “for the record” in another paper after that. however, its placement doesnt attract the same kind of attention as front page w/ a picture.

  12. Well..there was news last week of a judge that was indicted of taking grafts from attorneys for swaying divorce settlements. I wonder if our man Ravi Batra was involved. I am hoping that one day he will be indicted on the same charges. Ravi Patel.

  13. I am so happy that Ravi Patel is the voice of reason on the matter of the ludicrous Ravi Batra. I have had personal encounters with him on a professional basis. As a fellow attorney, I can state that he is not only a fraud but a disgrace to the community. Please Mr. Patel keep the readers informed about the atrocities of this dim-witted man who claims to be a great attorney. In New York legal circles, among the brightest in the best schools and law firms, he is a joke with a shingle! Anyone who believes otherwise is poorly informed.

  14. Insider… I am glad that someone has the common sense to see who Ravi Batra really is. The truth is that he is a crook. I have met him SEVERAL times and he is a bully that throws his money in everyone’s face. Listen, it is great to have money but not to treat other people like CRAP! The truth is that one day, he will be in a mess just like our pal Bernie Madoff. These things eventually catch up with you. With all the reading that I have done, it seems as if he makes his living from his own law suits. Se is suing NBC, and then a small mom and pop furniture company for $80 MILLION! The judge should have just thrown the case out right then and there. $80 MILLION for falling off of a chair! Is he %$%^’in NUTS!

  15. I have heard that Mr. Batra is going to DC to attend the inauguration ceremony and the ball. Okay..let the games begin! You will all now see Ravi Batra getting even more high profile cases and of course more one on one meetings and soirees with the judges. Go Ravi! Go Ravi! Go Ravi!

Also, Ravi.. the Maybach… ummmmm.. needs a chauffeur.

  16. To all my fans out there. I have some more news. Ravi Batra bought a Bently Drop top!

How many people did he %$%^ to get that? Ask yourself..
