{"id":3086,"date":"2006-03-04T23:53:40","date_gmt":"2006-03-05T04:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sepiamutiny.com?p=3086"},"modified":"2006-03-05T11:52:58","modified_gmt":"2006-03-05T16:52:58","slug":"wicked_googly_m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sepiamutiny.com\/blog\/2006\/03\/04\/wicked_googly_m\/","title":{"rendered":"Wicked Googly, Mr. President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In President Bush&#8217;s most brilliant photo op ever, he invited members of the Pakistani national cricket team to the US embassy for a private lesson in cricket. <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/in_pictures\/4775096.stm\"><img class=picture height=300 hspace=20 src=\"http:\/\/www.sepiamutiny.com\/sepia\/images\/_41403582_bushstrikes_afp220[1]_new.jpg\" width=220 align=right vspace=10 border=0><\/a><\/p>\n\n<blockquote style=\"margin-right: 0px\">\n<p>President Bush met Pakistani cricket captain Inzaman-ul-Haq and opening batsman Salman Butt amid tight security at the US embassy in Islamabad.<br \/><br \/>Watched by a crowd of schoolchildren, he was shown the correct way of holding a cricket bat before being led to the crease to face some bowling.<br \/><br \/>One of the balls from the Pakistani captain bounced high, striking the president on the shoulder. <\/p>\n<p>Mr Bush also tried his hand at bowling. [<a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/south_asia\/4774868.stm\">Link<\/a>]<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>&lt;<\/p>\n\n<p>p>No word as to whether batsman Butt was bestowed one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.org\/kids\/nicknames.asp\">President&#8217;s honorary nicknames<\/a> when he was standing in the crease, but we can only hope.<\/p>\n\n<p>&lt;<\/p>\n\n<p>p>Those of you concerned about the President&#8217;s safety while learning cricket will be pleased to learn that they replaced cricket balls with tennis balls for the purposes of this demonstration, so while the President was hit by a ball, he was not injured.<\/p>\n\n<p>See a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/in_pictures\/4775096.stm\">fuller squence of photos here<\/a>; my favorite is this one of <a href=\"http:\/\/newsimg.bbc.co.uk\/media\/images\/41403000\/jpg\/_41403584_bushball_ap416.jpg\">President Bush holding the tennis ball as if it were really heavy<\/a> before bowling.
