Weekly news magazine 60 Minutes will broadcast a first-of-its-kind interview with Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, according to a press release published today on her web site.
The interview comes about a month before the long-awaited release of Gurinder Chadha’s “Bride and Prejudice,” which features Rai as a co-star. The 31-year-old actress won the Miss World crown in 1994, and has since appeared in 30 Bollywood films.
“Ash’s popularity is global and America will soon get a taste of this international phenomenon,” said her manager Simone Sheffield.
The interview was conducted in Bombay by reporter Bob Simon, and produced by Neeraj Khemlani.
“This will mark the first time in the history of 60 Minutes where they feature an in-depth one-on-one profile with a Bollywood star,” said Khemlani.
The interview airs on January 2, 2005 at 7 p.m. on CBS.

Update by Manish: Check out the video clip of Aishwarya’s interview.
she is a big headed , ego-centrical actress, who thinks too much of herself…….they should be interviewing other stars, Besides, she is not he most beautiful women in the world – well u will see for yourself soon – she is over-rated…..
60 Minutes has been doing a few too many celebrity interviews lately. And the caliber of the celebrities has slipped. Recent profiles include Tobey Keith, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx – not exactly the A list. Now to interview Rai, who has not even proven her American box-office drawing power yet, seems to be a bit premature.
As for her acting abilities, the only film of her’s I’ve seen is Choker Bali, which I did enjoy – both for the story and since there was not a single song and dance number in it. But, a relative told me that Rai’s Bengali was dubbed by someone else, so equal credit should be given to the voiceover.
lets see – its not worth making any comments at the point

well, they could always make something up 🙂
…methinks that A (and B, and C…) list celebs don’t want to be seen on a sinking vessel, as when that report comes out it’s probably going to mean a total loss of prestige for the program. It’d suck to be interviewed just as “This just in! 60 minutes makes ish up!” hits the newsstands…
“…methinks that A (and B, and C…) list celebs don’t want to be seen on a sinking vessel”
Wrong again of course.
Some like watching television that challenges people to question if what their government tells them is true. I mean, the alternative would be to live in a Communist country where the state (or FCC) runs the media. 60 minutes was, is, and will continue to be, the best that television can offer a thinking audience, despite their one too many celeb interviews.

yes…and some like watching television news that actually tells the truth! 😉
btw, abhi, i said sinking…not sunk:
as when that report comes out it’s probably going to mean a total loss of prestige for the program.
You care to dispute the truth of that statement? Once that forgery admission comes out – and the extent of collusion with the DNC is revealed:
CBS will be the laughingstock of network news…
I’ll tell you what. You are more than welcome to keep screaming the sky is falling, and 20 years from now when 60 minutes is still running strong and leading in the ratings, I’ll be watching it with my kids and teaching them to challenge the government and not roll over and blindly salute.
Aishwarya Rai made a fool out of herself on 60 minutes. She was overtly PC and evaded Bob Simon’s questions with annoying and disrespectful giggles. She showed that she was empty, unintelligent and lacking of any depth whatsoever. She approached the kissing issue with immaturity and did not eloquently explain her thoughts on the matter. She behaved foolishly and most certainly, did not impress Bob Simon or any of the viewers.
I also was pretty unimpressed by her, especially the part where she created a minor riot at the temple and then wished it weren’t like that. And why did the priest give her a special shall? Come on. Still, she somehow ended up in a love scene with me in my dream last night. And we did kiss, settling that issue at least. No joke.
she was, she is and will continue to be FAKE
u people are morons she doesnt do movies in the US yet and just because you saw one of the 1756 (give or take 100)doesnt mean that you can say shes a BAD actress. Most songs on indian movies are not sung. actually no indian movie song that i have seen is sung by the actor. WHY? because they’re famous songs outside of movies. THEY JUST ADD THE SONGS TO THE MOVIES
if you don’t know the truth dont talk buttheads
