Reader “Cola” emailed our tip line about a Cele|bitchy blog post regarding The View’s most annoying co-host and the incomprehensible insults she hurls. Watch and enjoy, Mutineers:
But is she being racist? Or just a sputtering, inarticulate twit? I vote for the latter, but Defamer disagrees:
Though Elisabeth Hasselbeck has offended many during her tenure on The View, she’s never quite had what could be called, in the show parlance, a “Ching Chong” moment. So named for Rosie O’Donnell’s Asian language impression in which she shrieked, “Ching Chong Ching Chong!” and stopped just shy of declaring, “That was me, Rosie, playing an Oriental!” the gaffe is the type that incurs the wrath of an entire race, and Hasselbeck may have had her own in this morning’s episode.
While attempting to reference Deepak Chopra’s recent remarks on the Mumbai massacre (he implied the terrorists had an eye on America), a frustrated Hasselbeck first called him “Glitter Glasses Whatshisface,” and then, dismissing his comments as beneath her recognition, muttered, “Go light a bowl of incense.” Why stop there, Elisabeth? Tell those minorities how you really feel using the most stereotype-laden kiss-offs you can muster! If your stylist tries to dress you in another pirate shirt? “Oh, go take your AIDS pills!” Joy Behar got you down? Just say, “Whatsa matta, you-a? Something land in your spaghetti? Oh, what-a spicy meatball!” It’s fun, easy, and guaranteed to get the letters pouring in! [whats-his-link]
These are the remarks which got her knickers in a twist. In my opinion, she’s referring to Chopra’s new-age/self-helpy connections, zimbly because I think she’s too stupid to realize that agarbathi is Desi. I don’t know about all those letters pouring in there, Defamer. Thanks for the love, though!
Finally, “Glitter Glasses Whatshisface”? But…but…why? It doesn’t even make sense, not that Hasselbeck is known for doing so. Thoughts? 🙂
Speaking as someone who has never been a fan of Chopra, I thought what he said on CNN during the attacks was the best, most thought out and forward thinking response on US television. Seriously, check out the interview on the huffington post. What is so wrong about what he is saying, have people actually read it?
And Hasselbeck is a racist. And untalented!
I could care less about Elizabeth Hasselbeck, but she is stuck on show where she is most of the time where everybody else has different view then her and it hard to get your point across that way.
And for some reason if Elizabeth Hasselbeck was black or hispanic, and said the same thing. I don’t think that it would even be an issue.
Coincidentally, her husband Tim is the one of the most annoying commentators currently on ESPN.
Stephen A.Smith is worse.
I don’t expect much from her, but then again, I don’t expect much from people whose foundation for being famous is just being fit and attractive.
Wouldn’t that be every female actress in Bollywood

I’m so glad that it’s Matt Hasselbeck’s brother — and not Matt Hasselbeck (my favorite football player) — who’s married to this idiot.
Rumor has it the Seahawk might cut Hasselbeck in offseason due to high cap number and his injury problems, as the team is going into a rebuilding stage and draft a young QB for the future. I think Hasselbeck would be the great for a team like Minnesota, who are just missing a QB from being a super bowl contender.

great (irrelevant) hypothetical. unfortunately wrong.
yeah. you know what? whites would be racists to indians. Blacks would be racist to Indians. Hispanics would be racist to Indians. Despite all this, Desis will stay in USA and put up with anything and everything. They will find ways to justify every injustice/insult meted out to them and their country. Because? Some of them came here through some fraud – be it an extra thee companies and ten years in a resume, or a visitor visa overstayed or something, and are deathly afraid that if they say anything, they will be discovered and will have to go back. Then some came here as the sole hope of their otherwise dirt-poor families, and need to stay so that the three sisters can be married off, the not-so-goo-in-studies brother can get his degree and some job, parents can finally live in their own house, etc etc. Some of them came from living all their life in some bug-infested apaartment in some Indian city where their parents/brother/sister still lives, and can only see the one-bedroom apartment/twobedroom townhome/corolla/decent roads/no bribes in USA as heaven and accept all the racism as a minor price to pay for the privilege to stay in heaven, thanks to the amru’s mercy. AB(C)Ds cannto quite understand why the racism exists towards them, from their fellow americans, and are simply too cofoosed to see that they will always be outsiders, as long as the skin remains brown.
Just stating things the way they are now.
While I too, was a little put off by the fact that a news outlet like CNN would zone in on Deepak Chopra–not a regional or terrorism expert, by any means–to be the spokesperson for an event like the Mumbai attacks, I do think, as a general rule of thumb, Hasselback needs to watch her mouth. This is not the first time she’s spouted something insensitive. But back to my issue with CNN: Chopra would undoubtedly be the go-to-guy in terms of discussing how people could spiritually recover from a catastrophe like this but getting his take on the political scene? That’d be akin to Fareed Zakaria giving us meditation 101–inappropriate.
She is well known for her smartness.
What else did you expect from one who considered it a ‘honor’ to introduce Sarah Palin at the latter’s campaign events? She is a ‘composter’ where people of every hue and color with glittering or non-glittering glasses are processed alike to produce an instant Hasselbeck fertilizer meant for weeds growing at the Fox news.
Hearing a peraon of Indian origin calling anyone racist would be humorous if it wasn’t so sad and pahetic.
As far this EH is concerend she is much less racist than you (or deppak) of that I have no doubt.
oruvan,
Dude, you do realize a half-caste brown skin was just elected POTUS right?
here is an image of the red glitter glasses in question. i first saw these on his dvd lecture on gautama buddha. he also had on red sneakers i believe.
Don’t hate on the Chopra. A person’s politics is a manifestation of his spiritual values and there MAY be a religious component to this attack so why NOT bring on a well known media personality like him to expound his desi/metaphyscial angle on it? I thought what he had to say was thought provoking whatever thoughts it provokes.
I think people need to learn the difference between racism and name-calling.
Just because someone of another color calls you a mean name doesn’t mean it’s a racist term. It’s not like she dropped the n-word, or its equivalents for Indians.
“What’s-his-face Glitter-glasses” may be nothing more than an ignorant individual (who skates by on looks) exercising some name-calling under a guise of humor.
I think we all saw some of that in third grade.

That makes sense Amrita…I’m sure ShallowThinker will now give her an earfull.
I cringe everytime D.Chopra (That phony swami) opens his mouth. I would have said a lot worse than Elizabeth Hassel-blech. You go girl. I am not offended.
“Chopra is this generation’s L. Ron Hubbard…”
Please..he would barely make it past Operating thetan 2
When is your return flight oruvan? Do you have a ride to the airport?
Wow. I want to be mad, but I just can’t. I am so calling Deepak Chopra “Glitter Glasses Whatsisface” from now on. Thanks, Elisabeth!
I tried looking up a name for the fetish that I maybe developing, but I suggest you people not doing the same. Unless you are using your computer designated for porn. Now I just keep imagining Sarah Palin and the rest of the right wing hotties using and abusing me.
In my many months of reading this website I never imagine Sepia turning me into some sort of deviant. I might sue. I hope you guys have your check books ready.
Only a natural transition, shallow.
Sepia Mutiny –> SM –> S&M
i’ve noticed that the view’s website has taken down the community posting board (i’ve tried to complain before). has anyone seen an area on abc.com where one can complain? i really cannot stand elizabeth, even if she represents a portion of(uninformed, ignorant)society.
That annoying ditzy whatsherface is not a racist. She’s just annoying & ditzy. Also, very loud and a bit on the obnoxious side. She sounded like she inhaled too much smoke from some burning bowl of incense herself. I also agree Chopra tends to be a rambling talker and peppers his speech with flowery expressions. But I really don’t have anything against the man or Elizabeth Hasselbeck. They are just funny personalities who inspire comedians like Mike Myers.

When did Sri squared become Sri cubed????
Everytime I watch ditzy-annoying whatsherface, a little bit of my sanity (and a few cells in my inner ear) bites the dust.

Holy crap you might be on to something Sebs.
Deepak Chopra is a idiot. To call him “Glitter Glasses” is not at all unwarranted. I would cheer her on.
What is it with SMites (commenters) and their hate of Deepu? Alright, the guy is corny, so shoot him?
Is it because he made good on importing some very desi concepts like Vedanta, Yoga and Ayurveda, with a little neo-science “quantam physics” thrown in? He saw a “need” in the market and supplied it, so what?
Granted, he’s not an expert on war or terrorism or politics (any difference?), but the reason he was interviewed is obviously because he’s the most famous Indian in USA, nothing more. And I didn’t see anything offensive, disagreeable or idiotic about his comments on the Mumbai Tragedy. He basically said what alot of us already know – there are underlying causes that need to be addressed.
A funny take on Chopra and the American News here
Elizabeth Hasselbeck is BOTH an idiot and a racist!! Just watch the View and see what spews out of her mouth.

Did you even watch the interview?? Exactly what was this honey lipped swami’s desi/metaphyscial angle??!
A quick question, what does glitter glasses mean?
it means THIS. 🙂
“I would have said a lot worse than Elizabeth Hassel-blech. You go girl. I am not offended.”
I agree. I am more offended by Ennis’ post, and not allowing comments. Why blog when you can’t handle or inspire the comments? Assuming we all are prone to promote haterade is quite offensive.
There is room for the proposition that ABC does indeed betray a liberal bias by having a dimwit like Ms Hasselbeck as its representative conservative.
I also agree that the weirdo Chopra comes across as a pompous ass with diarrhea of the mouth.
The exact same thing can be said about whatsherface with her horribly irritating whiny voice that is like sharp nails scratching against a chalk board. If the US Armed forces are looking for new methods of torture, they can just turn up whatsherface’s voice to really cause pain and agony on an Iraqi suspect. That’ll teach those stupid terrorists.
Deepak Chopra is a new age idiot who doesn’t know what he was talking about. He is not a noted Indian scholar, he is not even a Hindu. He is a DHIMMI who sucks up to the islamic forces hellbent on conquering the whole earth. Dhimmi’s like him are more dangerous than the actual terrorists.
Just curious how glitter glasses whatshisface sucks up to terrorists. What specifically did he say that makes him dangerous? What’s a DHIMMI?? Do any islamic forces worship him or admire him? Is this why annoying whatsherface is against g.g. whatshisface?
The whole thing is hilarious!
From the only existing apartheid country and its citizenz/ex-citizens there seems to be a lot of outrage. Hmmmm….
This is like the KKK objecting….

what he said. i would’ve said more as well.
I think all your opinions of Deepak should be directed to his Blog, his kids read this blog and I remember them commenting on some posts, little restrain in name calling goes a long way. I don’t think it takes much to disagree without being disrespectful.
If squawking whatsherface’s offspring/relatives read this blog, we should probably show some restraint in name calling towards her too.
Being in the public eye, unfortunately, drives some people to poke fun and do some name calling of celebrities, like EH did. If she makes those comments, she should probably be prepared for the criticism. (Most likely, she could care less.) To his credit, Deepak Chopra has never taken cheap shots at anyone at least in public. He’s very dignified and polite and his voice is very calming & easy on the ears. He looks like he has a good sense of humor, too. I don’t necessarily agree with all of his views, though. Listening to E. Hasselbeck makes some people (like me) want to cover their ears with industrial strength ear protection. I am sure there are more articulate and less obnoxious, republican or conservative women who could take her place on The View.
Umber desi makes a necessary and excellent point. There are ways to express your disapproval, disappointment or dis-__________ without resorting to name-calling or ridiculous allegations.

Why blog? Because you are moved, and you have something to express. Why did you feel the need to leave your comment? Probably for the same reason. You think it’s offensive that he assumes haterade, but if you have had any experience with this blog whatsoever, you’d know he was right.
It’s a bit selfish to complain about someone not being able to “handle” the comments for their post when you don’t have to do the work of moderating. That’s like bitching at someone who can’t take on a part-time job to serve you; that’s what this blog often entails– 20 hours a week of work or more. We’re volunteers. We do what we can. You don’t have to be grateful, but it would be kind if you were gracious.
Still doesn’t change the fact that Chopra is a moron and knows nothing about how to fight terrorism.
