Monday would have been Freddie Mercury’s 65th birthday, and this November will mark the 20th anniversary of his death. Google’s home page featured a Google Doodle tribute to the lead vocalist evoking his colorful showmanship and over-the-top persona. It features “Don’t Stop Me Now,” with many visual references to other Queen classics.
YouTube streamed a continuous version of Queen’s legendary 1986 concert at Wembley Stadium. Car designers created a one-off bespoke Lotus in his signature style. In the midst of these celebratory events, The Guardian imagined what the ‘tache-twirling Freddie Mercury would be up to today.
Most likely, though, Freddie would probably be doing now what he did then: twirling that ‘tache, showing us his hirsute torso, and surveying all with a wry look that suggested he was about to go and do something a lot more fun and interesting than anything we had planned. (Guardian)
Mercury was born Farokh Bulsara in Zanzibar and grew up there and in India, before moving with his family to England where he went on to become one of the greatest rock stars in history before dying of AIDS-related complications in 1991.
