Sepia Mutiny is looking for high school mutineers

The Mutiny is looking to refresh our ranks with some young blood. When I say “young,” I am talking about jail-bait really young. If you, or someone you know, meets all of the following criteria and want to take a turn as a guest blogger on Sepia Mutiny, please email me at abhi [at] sepiamutiny.com:

  1. A phenomenal writer (English class supernerd, school newspaper prodigy, master debater).
  2. Has time on their hands to write because high school (even counting all those AP classes you are taking) is a breeze.
  3. Knows their current events. We generally like generalists who can write knowledgeably about a variety of topics of interest to South Asians living in the U.S. and Canada (as opposed to someone who specializes in say, Bollywood movies from 2000-2010).
  4. Has never plagiarized in order to write a chick-lit novel.
  5. Will never admit to liking Twilight in a Sepia Mutiny post (even if he/she really does). Will also never use “lol,” “ur,” or “omg” in any form of correspondence. Ever.
  6. Based in North America, or are a North American temporarily living abroad.
  7. Has something they want to say or communicate to the South Asian masses. If you don’t have something to say then it really doesn’t matter how well you write.

Is this you?

Delicately put. You should put the humor tag on this post.

  2. Do high school seniors graduating count under this list? I think I fit the bill for most of these things and would love to write. 🙂

  3. Delicately put. You should put the humor tag on this post.

But people always take me seriously even when I put the humor tag! 🙂

Ok, let me be explicit. This opportunity involves nothing unsavory. Except long hours of uncompensated blogging and dealing with unruly commenters.

  4. This is a great idea! I would love to know what the youths (or, just one particular youth) are thinking.

  5. Why just North Amrikans? That’s a bit against the democratic and global spirit of the interweb.

the blog was founded as americo-centric. and i think the global aspect of the internet is a bit overdone. there are 400 million chinese on the web, and they reside mostly in a chinese-language web. the biggest (as in readers) on the web is now a chinese dude who most non-chinese haven’t heard of.

in fact, i’ve found that american brown people raised in the southern states are kind of southern, and different in many of their outlooks from those raised outside of the south (e.g., they will object to the characterization of the people they were raised amongst as being descendants of traitors for example!). so spreading the net too far geographically can sometimes cause translation overhead.

anyway, pretty bizarre that this blog has made it for 6 years. at this rate some of the SM contributors who replicate in the near future can put forward their own spawn as gen 2.0 in an act of nepotism 🙂

  6. omg..well id be purfuct for this gig..i am northamerica and l like curry, and looking at pictures of bollywood girls..by my self

  7. 8. Must have a liberal elitist slant that will reveal itself in not so subtle ways.

True dat. Extra credit given to unabashed censorship to opinions contrary to the overlords.

  8. hey. i am really intrested in it. And i also will be takin journalism class next year. so can you please tell me what should i do to get this opportunity. and how can i contact you personally. Thank you

  9. Oh my god I’m so excited! I remember being 12 and reading this blog and wishing I could write in here–I’m glad you’re giving us this opportunity!

However, I second Radhika–I’ve grown since then and I will be a college freshman very soon. Do I still count?
