“She’s a female wizard… She’s also extremely sexually arousing”

Last night, Sir Salman appeared on The Colbert Report to discuss his new book The Enchantress of Florence and his bit-part in the movie And Then She Found Me.

Given the fact that the book seems written in a post-Padma haze of vituperation, the following exchange was particularly funny:

Colbert: “I bet the women just fall at your feet.”
Rushdie: ” I wouldn’t bet against it.”

Here’s Rushdie on the “lotions and potions” women use, why the fatwa made him feel like Tippi Hedren, why video games and YouTube will change the world (“when people see what garbage everyone else is consuming, they want it too”) and why playing Helen Hunt’s gynecologist appealed to him:

  1. I can’t believe he and Padma were an item for so long. For real.

I totally can. Women love cunninglinguists. Smart is the new rich. ๐Ÿ™‚

I read that as something else entirely..coughs

  4. Quite an entertaining tete-a-tete. I am quite impressed with Colbert’s quick wit. Rushdie, well still a pompous gasbag. Not sure he quite got the “canary in a coal mine” reference.

  5. “excuse me is that salman rushdie?”

LOL seriously. I can’t think of anything more surreal than Sir Salman being present at my gyno appointment.

  6. “Not sure he quite got the “canary in a coal mine” reference.”

Yeah, it probably went over his head.

  7. Not sure he quite got the “canary in a coal mine” reference.

    and you did!

  8. lord, that was a hilarious exchange of words. i absolutely adore colbert’s wit. “excuse me, is that salman rushdie?”

  9. “Smart is the new rich. :)”

Rich is always the new rich. I think Padma called a quits when Rushdie wouldn't help her sell her script :(

ooh! I haven’t heard that piece of gossip. Do share!

  11. “Do share!”

Well an agent pal of mine (bear in mind agents are a breed very much in the vein of ari gold so sprinke salt) said Padma had been trying to shop a film to LA execs. Salman agreed to help then backed out suddenly. Not nice.

  12. omg anyone who wants an insight into the great man’s mind should also pick up a copy of ‘fury’ if they haven’t done so already…

therein lies a 53 year old professor (approx age but i do know for sure that rushdie was around this age when he wrote this novel) who spends all his time either fucking nubile twenty year old girls or dreaming about fucking nubile twenty year old girls. said professor also ruminates on race relations, international terrorism and the fragmented diaspora of new migrants in the old world.

and freudian of the year is….?

absolutely agree that rich is the new rich, as a somewhat feisty and anti-everything girl i hate to admit it but how ‘set up’ a guy is/was/will be and whether we’ll go out with him/stay/dump him because of that is definitely a topic of conversation during those all night sleepovers where we feed each other marshmallows in our negligees.

Way to go. Most of us DBDs don’t have sex until we get to 53 when the arranged marriage system puts us out of our misery.

I think he did.. Don’t think you got his Birds reference

  15. Rich, Famous, Smart, Old, Short and “Not so good looking” – the usual mix for a perfect marriage? ๐Ÿ™‚
