Between the snow, the looming holidays, sundry drama and Keeping up with the Kardashians marathons, it’s gettin’, it’s gettin’, it’s gettin kinda hectic these days. It’s been heavy in addition to hectic, depending on which thread you’ve been marinating in (despite Abhi’s heroically adorable post about every college male’s dream sitch). Time for some high jinks and hilarity, I say.
The link to this wideo has been sent to me so many times, all that copying, pasting and emailing should be put to good use, right? Who cares. You’re gettin’ some Bharath und Bollywood, whether you want some or not. Don’t blame me, blame SAFO; this concoction has the manicured fingerprints of those over-educated hipster doofuses all over it.
If this mesmerizing mash up doesn’t inspire you to…um…do…something, then perhaps the crushing pressure of high expectations will– soon after Denton-offspring Wonkette posted this vid, a commenter thither wondered what we were thinking, here at Sepia Mutiny. Don’t disappoint everyone now– it’s bad enough that you didn’t go to med school, you sepia slacker. What’s that? Oh. Well if you did go to med school, it’s bad enough that it was overseas. And if you…ad absurdum.
oh GOD, anna, i am in stitches right now; this AND the infamous “por que no te callas?” video? my stomach is starting to hurt!
Hi-larious! There should be a whole collection…one for each candidate!
Thanks Anna– great tray on that video too, with Ben Affleck for Obama vid in there. Prettier than Hillary, what can I say? This is going to be such a great election year…
But I thought Hillary was (D-Poonjab)? 🙂
It’s actually kind of awesome 🙂
I was trying to remember where else I’d heard that song before – I think it was in The Guru
The republicans are getting in on the game too.
Dang, Rahul – do you work for YouTube?
Cute 🙂
The Wonkette post seems to imply that this piece is from the Obama campaign. It’s not. Or maybe this one slipped by without my paying close attention. God knows I’ve watched the rest many times each.
Obamania in Boston’s pretty high!
Yupper…Mistry did a jig to it too, in his sadhu garb.
Dear Wonkette: I am for it. Love, Neal.
Ewww…makes me sick
That Punjabi-dubbed Bush video cracked me up, though
Rahul, that was side-splitting funny – Bush speaking Punjabi. 🙂
Before it was featured in The Guru, does anyone know if it was featured in an Indian movie? Any links?
Hey Pravin,
The song is from the film Mela

The other night, debating whether to watch “Koffee with Karan” or a documentary on election campaigns, I chose the high road for a change and ended up learning about a serious issue in mass communications – the advent of viral video. Campaign managers, long used to completely controlled, one-way, top-down, paid-for communication, don’t know how to counter this grassroots revolution with the power to alter or contaminate their carefully crafted message within hours.

Please try the above link showing Hillary Clinton in a most unflattering parody of Orwell’s 1984. The video, an absolutely undetectable modification of Apple’s 1984 commercial portraying PC users as suffering drones (read Hillary supporters), got over 3 million hits on youtube. The Obama campaign rightfully denied any hand in this. Some geek accepted responsibility for it. Interestingly enough, he did not seem to have any political motive. He essentially hacked into Hillary’s campaign communication just because it could be done, thanks to modern technology.
In a situation similar to the lunatics having taken over the asylum, common people with tools as ordinary as a $600 laptop and a $200 editing software can completely change a candidate’s multi-million dollar branding efforts with a single hit video on youtube. Over 3 million people watching “Hillary 1984” is not some anti-Hillary cartoon posted in the locker room. It is mass communication with the power to change the course of events.
Not to be judgmental about viral video – because the campaign managers are desperately trying to use the same tool to promote their candidates – I do wonder about the laissez faire, uncensored and essentially lawless (or law free) nature of communication in general. In a civilized society, if you insult someone in public, you could get sued for defamation. If you make false claims in the act of selling a product, there are a host of government agencies who will be only too happy to slap you with a fine. But where are the controls normally found in a civilized society when we deal with the most powerful communication medium of all – the internet?
To end on a lighter note, I did enjoy the Bharath Obama video (why the h at the end, ANNA?). Not normally prone to link-clicking at Sepia Mutiny, I decided to click your flickr link and found your pictures as clever as your writing. Same mind, just two different media. And oh, after looking at your pictures, it occurred to me that someone as sharp a writer as you has no business being so cute – or vice versa… with all due respect, as they say on the Sopranos.
I think Hillary 1984/Vote Different is erudite and highly civilized, plus very savvy in terms of anticipating legal issues that might arise.
Breaking up expert manipulation/crowd control around elections is what democracy is all about. I’d like to see some cutting edge technology applied to counting votes next fall!
Very funny. I wonder who are these dhanda-nots who spend so much time making such videos 🙂 Is there one for Hillary too?
Thanks for the Big Laugh! From a Polskie/irie-Irish American fan of Sepia Mutiny!
Haha, that was pretty great!
I remember the famous Hillary video where they modified the original 1984 Apple video. That was a great piece of work. And when you consider how carefully they manage their “conversations”, that ad makes even more sense now.
Not much worse in terms of false information when you compare it to the distortions and ommissions on networks like CNN, FOX and MSNBC.
I love the fact that the establishment no longer has a monopoly on this. Political consultants are some of the most overpaid hacks in the world. It’s time they get exposed when you see a volunteer churning out superior work for free.
Great. Now who am I going to vote for?!
Say what you will, this is much less annoying than watching Heather Graham act.
OMG, i wonder how long it took to actually make that
FURTHER PROOF I WILL WOTE FOR MR. BHARAT OBAMA
THANK YOU!
ANNA,
Further thanks — I’ve sent the link to AIS alumnus and web director Tim Brown, who posted the video to the AIS website: http://aisaes.org/
But where are the controls normally found in a civilized society when we deal with the most powerful communication medium of all – the internet? – floridian
it’s called democracy. scary, huh?
After seeing this yesterday, I had a dream Obama was singing Xmas Carols.
