A few weeks ago, I put up a monster meetup post outlining social possibilities for my three cities: NY, DC and SF. New York’s Summerstage meetup (soundtrack provided by Talvin Singh…sort of) was epic, DC’s was private and fabulous and San Francisco…um…gosh, this is awkward. It’s not you, it’s me. 😉 Two out of three ain’t bad…
Here’s the story, morning glories: originally, I was supposed to be in Baghdad-by-the-bay for the entire beginning of September, from the first through the tenth. We planned a meetup on the 9th and it was good. Unfortunately, we may have to rethink that thought. I landed in heaven Northern California at 11pm yesterday and I’m leaving on Tuesday. Which means that on the 9th, I’ll be in DC, probably at work. We have two options:
1) Meet tomorrow evening (spontaneous! edgy! unpredictable! fun!), since I will be in the city all day.
2) Meet sometime this weekend, i.e. Saturday or Sunday. I had assumed that all of you international bright young things would be out of town because of the holiday, but I’ve heard from a few of you (coincidentally, all my favorite peeps) that I am quite wrong, that you WILL in fact be right here in the bay. Goody!
What do you want to do? Pipe up or forever hold your mattar.
Oh, and because I feel terrible about this calendar cluster #>@%, I’m letting you see a picture which was taken a few days before the LAST SF meetup I hosted; it was never supposed to go public, since it shows two mutineers wackily impersonating an uncle and an auntie…well, that and it’s someone’s proof. Sigh. As a complete coincidence, I was in NY for the Central Park meetup. I live in DC so I was obviously at that meetup (which was kicka$$, and I’m upset we don’t get our own SM writeup). Long before the announcement, I made plans to be in SF on Sep.9. I was hoping to set some kind of record to be the first SM reader to be at 3 meetups in one month. Alas, ’twas not to be.
Please let’s meet tomorrow, I’ve got plans this weekend (gonna meet that other cutie you know, wink wink).
aw man. missed the last one and was hopin to make this one my first SF meetup. But got family visiting from out of town and we must needs do the desi tour of SF and Yosemite. hope to catch ya next time.
My bad. As stressed as I am, I should have made sure to get this done in a timely fashion…who cares about a demanding new job or other obligations I TOLD YOU ABOUT IN PERSON, AT THE MEETUP…I’m a blogger! 😛
I’ll be sure to schedule family emergencies around the Mutiny from now on, wtf was I thinking. When my new boss told me that I had to be in town the weekend of the 9th, I should have told him to screw himself!

Ooh, please make it Friday or Sunday during the day! I have to delouse the macacas on Saturday and it normally takes me until the wee hours to finish. On Sunday evening, Maneesh is going to twist up some wicked dub at the Elbo Room, so that won’t work for me either. I promise to bring free copies of my new album and I’ll try and drag Kush Arora out from his secret-underground command center!

anna, i’m so sorry to hear about the family emergency and the work obligations. i meant only to continue the playful east coast-west coast trash talk started by vinod/ennis and ak in the last meetup thread, and the new york-centric banter in the food thread, and nothing more. if it came across as something other than that, then i apologize for that.
hope you’re able to meetup and have fun! and of course anything else snarky i might have to say MUST at some level just involve jealousy because i won’t be there. 🙂
oh miss anna, i just think pied piper was playing his pipe a little too loud… he’s just jealous that the awesome people are on the west coast… sf nonetheless.. which is like the best city ever! snark snark snark that i wasn’t fortunate enough to live there more than 3 months at a time…
with people like terence, brimful, oodles, and others…it’s a good town with good people.. disclaimer: not saying other cities don’t have good people in them… don’t want to cause an oppressed thread here…

cal playing tennessee in season opener on saturday afternoon (2:30pm kickoff)…complicating things i know. but i’ll be watching at bayside in the marina (grrr…i know). probably be there at noon, but when plans settle, i’ll see how i can skirt around the city. Oh, for the love of pete, someone just pick a place and time and be done with it. I’m fine with sticking to our normal North Beach haunts, since we know where they are and parking is no more atrocious than anywhere else in this maddening city. Just tell me when and where. I’m not going to Cabo this weekend, so I’ll be there.

i’m also a newbie and wanted to know if anyone from southbay is going to the meetup and would be so kind as to give me a ride? my car crapped out this week and the only other mode of transport i have is a skateboard and it would be a difficult to ride up highway 101 to sf with all those crazy macacas and chupacabras on the road.
so, um, when and where is this happening? and, any assurances that it will not be completely awkward to show up solo and not knowing anyone else??

At every meetup we have ever had, someone rolls in solo, without knowing anyone…or anything besides what I look like. Remember, like katamari, we collect all the brown people who allegedly don’t fit in with other brown people/haven’t had desi friends/”never did that ISA thing in college”.
