While you Amreekan desis are out winning your spelling bees and geography bees, we Canucks are out here breaking records. World records, people! Sri Lankan-Canadian Suresh Joachim is at it again and this time he’s partaking in one of my favourite activities, karaoke. Starting at 11:00 AM on the 31st and continuing on for fifty hours…:
Suresh Joachim will be singing his way into the record book. This electrifying record is organized by M.M. Robinson high school in Burlington. Suresh Joachim and the students are joining to raise fund for the Canadian Red Cross. The current karaoke world record is 25 hours & 45 minutes and was performed by Mark Pearson (U.K) in 2004. [Link]
Joachim currently holds 33 world records and since Cicatrix introduced us, Joachim has run a hundred klicks on a treadmill, crawled one mile in thirty six minutes, worked a pair of turntables for seventy six hours, moonwalked for twenty four hours, and gone on a thirty one hour couple dance marathon. [Link]
Joachim wants to break the record for holding the most current records, he’s doing it for the children:
The most remarkable demonstration of SureshÂ’s commitment to help suffering children will be the World Peace Marathon. This incredible journey will begin at 12:00 a.m. on December 25, 2007 in Jerusalem and end at 5:00 p.m. on June 24, 2008 in Sydney Australia. During his voyage, Suresh will travel through 88 major cities, in 54 countries passing a symbolic peace torch to dignitaries in each place. [Link]
With this marathon Joachim hopes to petition to make June 24 ‘World Ceasefire Day’ and raise $1 billion for the Universal Fund for Suffering Children.
Big up to Sri Lankan Canadians doin they thang all over!!
What is it with brown people and breaking world records???
All I gotta say is anyone willing to marry a guy that so gung ho about world records, that she is willing to go to that extent for her wedding day is a winner. 33 world records? geeeeez…..
didn’t he dribble a basketball over 3 days live at a Tamil radio station in Toronto as well??
Without wanting to announce and then jinx it, I’d like to state that I’m into the 2nd hour of attempting to surf the web continuously for five days:) I am embarking on this journey to create awareness about the abuse of internet privileges by employees working for unsuspecting Multinationals. I will be spending the entire five days at my work-place hidden in my cubicle. As a spin-off, I will also be attempting to sustain myself without spending a penny, by raiding the pantry for food. I will sip on strong coffee and tilt the Vending Machines at night, when no one is around. I will mutter, “you can do it!” every five minutes or so! Damn, i thinlk thast mty boass, gototu go byue…
Crimony! Your Canadian kid can beat up my honor roll kid.
whatever he does i can do better
maybe he’s got some other world-record talents that only she knows about…
His name is Joachim? Where is he from? I thought that was a german name. Like Joseph Joachim, the famous violinist friend of Brahms.
Rustam
Oh, this video of his dance marathon is amazing. He’s dancing to dhols and pipes, wedding styles!
Mmm hmm, the word ‘stamina’ comes to mind, hehe.
43seconds, I can’t find anything of the sort on his site but that sure does sound like him…
UberMetroMallu, I salute you, you brave soul!
It’s a biblical name. You know, like “Anna”. Incidentally, Joachim and Anna were the Virgin Mary’s parents and thus, grandparents to Jesus Christ.
Also, perhaps it is a Burgher/Dutch name (like Ondaatje)— right, Srilankan SMers ?
Aww, he ain’t quite Mallu. But close ’nuff 🙂
You got it ashvin…he’s of burgher origin.
Right on!
I was unaware it is a biblical name. Was just curious because im 2nd gen in Germany and had only known it as a german name. Thanks.
Rustam
Good call Ashvin. Joachim isn’t unusual, and not limited to Burghers either. I was friends with a Tamil catholic girl with the same last name.
to confirm, he is Tamil.
does it matter?? given Sri Lanka’s identity crisis, most likely.
the only real record that i remember a brown person having was the longest fingernails..remember that picture in the world book? it haunted me in 1985, and does to this day… just plain creepy!
