I know that L.A. area mutineers have been pushing for a SM meet-up. I admit that I am a horrible host and haven’t been able to step up to the plate as of yet. I am in the middle of grad-school hell right now as my research has been getting some attention in the press of late, otherwise I’d be all about the meet-up. In the meantime let me draw your attention to Artwallah’s kick-off/benefit party this Thursday night. I will certainly be there and so should you:

Tej Gill – “Regarded as one of the original South Asian DJ’s in L.A., TejGill brings together Electronic Dance Music and Classical Indian Rhythms to create enigmatic DJ sets. You can find out more as well as hear samples from “The Message” – a limited edition E.P., at www.GillometerMusic.com.”Gabe Abraham – Gabe Abraham founded didJital as a vehicle for sharing the Asian Massive and world electronica movement with Los Angeles, bringing internationally known artists such as Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale, and Banco de Gaia to the nightclub scene. Part Indian himself, it was a natural progression for him to hear traditional South Asian sounds fused with electronic beats.

Even more importantly, some of you artists, musicians, filmmakers, dancers, etc. should be submitting your work to the Artwallah Festival which will take place this summer. The OFFICIAL DEADLINE is TOMORROW. I know that festival organizers are going to kill me for writing this but…(Shhhhhh)….they very often take late submissions so please get in touch with them and send stuff in ASAP:
We are very pleased to announce that this year’s festival will take place from June 22-25, at three new venues: We’ll start off the festival on Thursday night at the movies, screening films at one of LA’s best independent cinema houses. On Friday, live bands and DJs will entertain at one of the city’s best music clubs. And on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25, the ArtWallah Festival will be at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, in the heart of Little Tokyo, in Downtown Los Angeles. The JACCC offers an outdoor plaza, a large indoor art gallery, a serene zen garden, many classrooms for workshops and panels, and the state of the art Japan America Theatre. We encourage you to submit your work to ArtWallah 2006. We strive to showcase established and emerging artists of the highest quality in dance, film, music, literature, spoken word, theatre, and visual art.
Well, please do tell us about your insanely brilliant research that is getting “attention in the press” – don’t just tease now.
How will I recognize you at the party? Can you wear a red t-shirt that says, “THESIS WHORE”?
🙂
Ahem. I’d like to note that I blogged this before most of the news coverage. 🙂 Briefly, but still. 😉
And you can keep track of the news coverage here. Hint, hint Abhi–be a dear, and put a copy of the paper somewhere where the geeks can find it. Astrobiology is hard to search on scholar.google.com.
Congratulations!! Abhi, you must be one super-organized individual to stuff SM, your work and some living in 24 hours.
Saheli, Thanks for the link.
I will be wearing a pink shirt and live blogging from the corner. Yeah right. 🙂
Sure, any day now 🙂
I could lie and say yes, but in reality it is the crack/pixie stick powder mixture that drives me.
