Been WAY too busy to write up detailed notes since the NYC meetup last weekend (since NYC, I’ve been in San Diego, Kansas City, SF and am on my way to Hawaii & Barcelona over the next 2 weeks – work can be a beeyatch sometimes).
Last Saturday’s NYC meetup was the largest meetup so far (~25ish people over the course of the afternoon) and brought in a lot of new blood, new bloggers, lurkers and almost pulled in a few anonymous patrons at Kati Roll.
The effervescent Jane of All Trades (who, BTW is currently reading one of my recent fav books – David Mccullough’s 1776), posted a good writeup, hints at an interest in a caste-no-bar mutineer 4some & put up handful of her picts.
Our own Suitable Girl blogged, fotolog’ed and flickr’ed the event & some of its aftermath.
Some of the other folks in attendance (reconstructed from my + Manish’s hazy memories of the event… apologies in advance if I missed anyone)-
- Zimblymallu
- Zadeblog
- Nina Paley – who gave us an update on the progress of her Sita odyssey
- commentress Emily
- Jane
- Pooja
- Sank / Ethnotechno
- (anyone else?)
True to form, the Mutiny family continues to amaze and the people at the meetup were each interesting specimens of the desi diaspora. And they certainly have no trouble striking up a boisterous conversation with folks they’ve just met. Some folks were nothing like their blog / comment persona’s. Some were exactly like them. Others were bigger. One thing we all agreed on – while the blogposts brought ’em in first, it’s obsessive comment checking 15 times a day that really destroys the @work productivity. We heart all the Mutineers.
damn vinod, that’s an ill schedule. i’m exhausted just reading it. you need to get out of the rat race my brother!
ANNA is a real hottie π
I was there!
The reason our memories are hazy is that Anna dragged us to a great bar starting at 4.30 in the afternoon, the earliest I’ve ever had a drink except for Napa wine tasting.
And we hated every minute of it π
Abhi man, we’re holding you to it, a west-coast rendezvous is more than overdue. We should have coffee at Kerchoff’s or something.
I know, I know. Second week of Feb. I’ll get something going. My camera runs out of battery power after one picture though so other people better bring cameras if they want to be flogged.
Is Sank affiliated with ethnotechno? I didn’t even hit him up for musician contacts. Damn! (I’m still looking for contemporary South Asian music for Sita.)
yeah but Manish has the haute nametag working for him
Who’s the fat guy wearing a black shirt on the left?
Moi, and I’ll have you know that jacket was in style… seven years ago.
Cool! If you guys ever do something in the Dutty South in the ATL, Orlando or Miami, just holla.
Hi Nina, Sank is the guy behind Ethnotechno. You can reach him through his contact info on the website.
I’d still be interested in producing music for Sita if you’d like to discuss it again… let me know!
Vinod writes:
Oh, you poor poor thing!

Hey there,
I didn’t know you guys were in NY. Um, I’m going to be moving up there soon. I begin work in the beginning of March. Near Grand Central. Hit me up if you guys go out for drinks.
Awwwww group hug anyone??? Those that didn’t show and blew a lot of hot air about doing so…you suck! It was sooooo much fun. Vinod gets credit for not being on DST (desi standard time). I had to walk upto him and say “Hi Vinod?” and then we laughed at all the other people that walked in, walked past and came back and said “Sepia Mutiny?” Hehehehe
Awesome to hear that attendance has been growing. I’m quite rare on the comment boards (never maintain the same name), but check the site several times a day. You guys gotta hold a meetup in the nation’s capital one of these days! DC One handrad and pheefdee % yaar!
Chicago? Anyone, anyone, Buehler?
Anna, you look gorgeous!
Any pictures which feature Anna end up getting people saying ooh Anna you’re so hot, ooh Anna I want to be your boyfriend, oooh Anna I have a laminated picture of you in my bathroom…and so forth.
Doesn’t anyone ever stop to think of her photographic colleagues? Some people aren’t photogenic. Like, well…Manish for example. In this particular picture. But does anyone stop to think “perhaps he looks more like a male model in real life?” or “Perhaps Anna photoshopped out her beard” or “I wonder if Bong Breaker’s single?” No, you’re all too busy ogling Anna’s John.
Well I’m here to redress the balance. Anna, you make me SICK. You did not rouse my loins. Unaroused, you hear me? UNAROUSED.
On the other hand…Vinod, let’s talk.
I just had this great vision of Bong Breaker wandering around with a t-shirt that says,
Sounds like a fantastic time. I miss New York!
wow… makes me feel like I’m back home in San Francisco π
ANNA looks preeettty.
