A chilly Diwali

Manhattan celebrates Diwali next Sunday, October 2nd at the South Street Seaport. Come enjoy bhangra, chaat, Air-India fireworks (not the Flight 182 kind) and life insurance booths next to the Brooklyn Bridge.

The chilly Seaport is a moorage for tall ships in the shadow of azure skyscrapers by Wall Street. It’s both an anachronism (a mall these days) and an odd spot for the celebration, evoking the Americans dressed as Indians who dumped tea in Boston Harbor.

Real Indians would never waste perfectly good tea. And it would probably be Lipton.

  1. DesiDancer,

if you must know what I look like, who am I to deny you. Here.

I am laughing my head off here…;)

Now we both know you don’t really look like that picture….However, if you want to keep up the mystery, and continue to torture me further, I can understand that.

    But you’re a very bad girl indeed for doing so….Definitely a future Femme-Fatale Auntie….

    wink

  2. I’m sorry, I didn’t realize a post about a festival meant that we should draw lines in the sand and pick sides. Should we be disagreeing about this, just so we don’t fall into your curse of group-think and being too agreeable about a free outdoor festival??

    There’s a mela on Sunday.

    No there’s not.

    Yes there is.

Well Jai and BB aren’t coming because they’re in UK.

Fine. Let them be that way. Haters.

    Yeah, well don’t come them.

    F** you, you tribalist assholes!

right. that’s how this thread was supposed to go…

  3. i come on this site to argue ideas but i try not to make it personal

i’m sure there’s people who have no interest in being friends with anyone from this site and would rather talk or argue about ideas. i’m most definately one of them

i’ll try in the future to not comment on chit-chat threads but if i have a point to make thats a bit sour to people who would rather it be breezy, that should not be a problem, if it is just let me know

  4. Raju buddy,

It’s just harmless banter between a couple of people goofing around. There’s nothing wrong with having a sense of humour.

If you have something more serious to contribute on this thread or indeed on any others on SM (which you obviously have been doing recently, with regards to your messages during the past 24 hours on the other topics), nobody is stopping you from voicing your thoughts on the main topic. Go ahead. But if some of us want to bounce some stupid jokes around amongst ourselves just as an expression of friendliness and basically to make the other person laugh, I don’t see the problem with that. As I said, if you want to discuss some more serious points, go for it — this is an open discussion forum.

    Bong Breaker,

What does F** stand for DD?

laughing You are one cheeky sod, you know that ?! lol

  5. This is definitely happening, right? There’s no information about it on the internet besides on SM. I need to find out for my niece!
