Yeah. Keeper of his Brother’s WIFE, that is. (Thanks Kar, DesiDancer and Sonia):
An Indian college girl has temporarily married her teenaged boyfriendÂ’s elder brother so she can live in the same house as her lover until he is old enough to marry her, the Indian Express reported on Tuesday. [MSNBC]
Sneha Patel, 19, a resident of the western Indian state of Gujarat, was in love with Yash Kishan Parmar, also 19, and wanted to marry him despite her parentsÂ’ opposition to the match, the newspaper said.[MSNBC]
In India, the legal age for men to marry is 21, while for women, it’s 18. The law has good intentions; it’s meant to prevent child marriage. But then again, you know what the road to hell is paved with. 😉
Patel and Parmar eloped briefly but, not wanting to be on the run until Parmar was 21, Patel proposed that she would marry his elder brother and divorce him two years later.[MSNBC]
When the lowe-struck duo realized that they’d have to [gasp!] miss school for two years, they began to rethink their impulsiveness.
I hope that twenty-four months from now, we’re not updating you with drama and shocking developments in this story:
The elder brother even agreed to sign a contract saying he would divorce Patel after two years and treat her as his younger brotherÂ’s wife until then, the newspaper said.[MSNBC]
Ah, “true love is the greatest thing in the world . . . except for a nice M.L.T.” 😉
A blessing on his head, to see his brother wed…to his girlfriend.
Sounds like “Like Water for Chocolate” (I wonder if the boy can make chapati like generations before him?)
Dont let any bollywood guys get wind of this. This is an awesome Bollywood script – Akshaye Khanna as the younger bro, Akshay Kumar as the scheming elder bro, Kareena Kapoor is the heroine. To make things complicated, Kareena has an elder sis Bipasha Basu whom Akshay (Kumar) loves. Kareena eventually marries Akshay Kumar (as per plans) and seduces him one night (a la Ajnabee) and “finish matters”. Akshaye (Khanna) gets despo and goes after Bips (who is sexier than Kareena any day) and falls in love with her. Finally after two years, a lot of confusion happens and Akshaye (Khanna) and Bips get married after the divorce does not happen.
In a brilliant sequel two years later, the 2 bros and sis go on a world tour together, sing songs in foreign locales, and rediscover their old loves. Both divorce and get married to the earlier ones. And they live happily ever after.
In the third part of the movie, Priyanka Chopra enters and seduces both the brothers. They divorce their wives and go after her only to find that Priyanka is the daughter of their own father (Anil Kapoor) who was seduced by Sridevi (a bar dancer in a special appearance) on a stormy and rainy night. The movie ends by Sridevi shooting down Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra marrying her longtime boyfriend Salman Khan. (Movie can also feature Emraan Hashmi in a spl appearance as her dad, who ultimately also gets to kiss a young Sridevi in the movie)
Deepak, excellent story man…You got any producers yet???
half of that sounds like that crappy Akshay-Kareena-Anil movie, Bewafaa…
Don’t forget the last 5 minutes of the movie where Abhishek Bachchan turns up, and Kareena, Bipasha, Priyanka and Sridevi all want to leave their husbands for him, only to find out he’s engaged to Rani Mukherji. The closing credits show the wedding, with Amitabh Bachchan playing the role of the pandit.
Aajtak informs me both Mahesh Bhatt & Nikhil Advani are fighting to option Deepak’s screenplay. In the meanwhile, he has been secretly approached by Karan Johar himself, who will stick to basics – replace the second-rung Akshayes & Kareenas with King Khan & Junior Bachchan opposite Ash, plus lots of crane shots, & the tagline “It is all about loving your brother-in-law”.
