Check out the lyrical stylings of desi rap group Raja Wilco, about whom I can find damn near nothing on the Net except that they’re from Jersey. Fobio Patel says:
These tracks were ripped from Raja Wilco’s CD “Raja That!”, the 10-4 Sampler… May I draw attention to the fact that tracks 9 and 10 are missing. All of them, especially Raj Makhija and Raja Wilco should feel shame for even including those tracks on their CD. They had such a good thing going, and then tracks 9 and 10 totally fucked them up. It made my ears bleed. I’m bewildered by their extreme lapse in good judgement.
Notable tracks:
-
‘Peter Pank’: interesting syncopation and a reference to a Spanish punk comic:
… the anarchic 80s trash culture comedy PETER PANK, mixing JM Barrie with Johnny Rotten… The best Peter Pan adaptation ever created wasn’t Spielberg’s, or Hogan’s, or even Disney’s. It was made in the 80s, in Spain. In comic form. And it featured sex, drugs and enough rock and roll to get Elvis out of his secret retirement and send him on tour with zombie Sid Vicious and the ghost of Eddie Cochran.
-
‘Maharaja’:
Yo, I enter the picture like Shah Rukh Khan
Puffing a sto’ like Salman Khan…From Oldbridge, Edison…
home of the desis…
Brunswick… Cherry Hill…
Freestylin’ under the Brooklyn Bridge
with Crooklyn kids…
You can listen to all the tracks, except the ones Fobio despises, at his site.
Blasphemy! They’ve stolen one of my fave bands names and proceed to tarnish it with their blend of fusion! Horrors.
Such is the postmodern, I suppose.
Sounds pretty good, especially maharaja.
Cool stuff… I’m definitely gonna play Maharaja on the show… 🙂 I’m actually kinda interested in hearing the bad tracks… how bad could it be? 🙂
I’ve picked up this CD last weekend at the UK Vibes 2 concert in Toronto. It was given to me as a promo. I believe that their website is http://www.pgzmusic.com (i tried http://www.rajawilco.com and that worked too). I think that stands for Propagandaz Music Group. It looks like the site just opened though cause theres only an email address and the Raja Wilco symbol. Personally I enjoy “What you wanna do” and “Peter Pank”. I don’t think that the “Mahi Ve” or “Kaho na Kaho” remixes are bad though… I’m really interested in hearing more of their music…I’ve emailed them, we’ll see what happens.
Not sure if you’ve all seen this. Raja Wilco is part of another group called DigiSpace Records. Sounds pretty interesting. They got some major acts on their label. Check out Amita and Sandeep!

i know and worked with raja wilco personally, and i can say that he’s a great guy and he’s very talented in wut he does..i thought the cd was done very well…he brings his own style to the desi scene, which makes him different from all the other MC’s…just look foward alot more hott releases within the next few weeks…
Has anyone heard the 2 Raja Wilco tracks on the Jay Sean Official US Tour mixtape? Theres a bassy club track called “Ajaa Tu”, and another interesting freestyle type of track called “Bluejays”. I heard a song called “Stand Up” on Nightlife Radio on Dhoom 89.3 (www.dhoomfm.com). It’s about the Tsunami disaster.
I was very dissapointed with this cd! No offense to Raja Wilco but hit lyrics are very weak! There were 2 alright tracks but the rest of the cd was iffy
Not impressed! way to mess up some classic songs!
