Many of us have been waiting a long time for some new Panjabi MC material, and while he has released a new album, entitled Steel Bangle–in reference to the Kada or bracelet that many Sikh men wear, the material used for the album is apparently music that did not make the final cut for the last album PMC recorded for nachural records.
Word around the block is that PMC, aka Rajinder Rai, had signed on to release a certain amount of records for nachural, and to fulfill his commitment he decided to release old material, again. Even though the material is leftover, it is still PMC, and so some of it is quite hot. You can hear samples of the album’s 10 tracks here so go and give it a listen. My favorite track is Nachdi Tu Gidhe Vich featuring his longtime collaborator Labh Janjua, the singer from Mundian to Bach Ke.
That being said, this is definitely not an album to write to MTV about.

Its filler material to satisfy his contract with his record label, who screw all the bhangra artists. Watch him come back when he sets up his own label soon and starts laying down the bhangra law.
His hit with Jay-Z was everywhere when it came out; I couldn’t escape it- it was even played everywhere I went in Italy.
Panjabi MC is not fully credible for the ‘Mundeya…’ track. The Cray Twins are to be given credit (which has been lacking by most) and they’re two heavy fella’s out of the UK who are now working with the likes of Snoop, Pharrell and others. The Twins were also rumoured to have worked w. Black Eye Peas but I’ve never looked into it.
That aside, I agree that the current record label for PMC screwed many an artist. Shame.
PS, Sikh men are not the only ones to wear a Kada (Steel Bangles). Women are equals and wear a kada too.

However, this is about PMC and this album…firstly, Moviebox are bastards – full stop.
This albums defo got the PMC sound and feel but its obviously to finish his contract with Moviebox. I reckon he could get signed to a rec like Def Jam UK – if PHS can, I’m sure they’d be interested in PMC. But a thing to remember is Def Jam can’t make PMC amazing, dats upto Raj himself! And i reckon its jus a case of finding the right deal and jus puttin out some wicked stuff like he’s done in the past!

You are right…Moviebox screw bhangra artists big time. The future for UK bhangra lies in artists setting up their own labels for people who care about the culture of bhangra and what it means to people in this country. Moviebox dont care about anything, they screw everyone.
I am glad he put out this album to be free of those scumbags. Like you say, he should be free now, hook up with some big label or start his own. The man has got the name and rep now to do some serious things in the industry and promote UK bhangra culture.

Panjabi MC changed the face of Bhangra music, no one used the word DESI before and now every Mofo is using it… Then the Giddha dhe Rani beat the first man to use in Magic Desi, Pure Phattness. I say Wait .. That PMC’s gonna drops some bomb real soon.
